Funny, small world. Nice guy to buy it from.

Yeah unfortunately the seats are so blow out there is no easy fix for them. I have never felt flattened seats like this before. Plus, I think fixed back race seats will be awesome.

I am feeling a little overwhelmed with the car right now with all of it's issues. Thank god it runs well. Basically everything else is toast. I need to take it one fix at a time and not think of the whole project.

Ordered a shark tune today and the fuel breather. After this I need to concentrate on the brakes, suspension and tires.

tbh, the seats could be worse. That quick fix might make it good enough to ignore for a long time.

Congrats and good luck! Welcome to the rabbit hole.

You mentioned smog. Did the seller not smog it for the sale?

I love seeing these cars saved and restored versus parting out or stripping to make an M5 touring. Good luck and keep the updates coming!

Thank you.
Restoration is a strong word haha, I'll do my best to save it!
Some progress, new tires tires yesterday continental extreme contact DW (dry weather) I think these are going to work great.
Also checked out all the suspension and surprisingly it is in good shape. Found solid rear differential bushings had been installed.
The car does seem to wonder down the street. I was thinking of starting by installing Monoball thrust arm bearings. The new tires and getting an alignment might work as well.
Also want to do bilstein pss soon.
Cheers,

Update: Got my shark injector and new Fuel tank breather valve - should be able to pass smog now.

Pulled off the front lip and it has taking some big hits! I am thinking of making a 1/2 plywood filler plate to fix the bottom and glassing over it. I am also contemplating making a front splitter out of plywood. I have some experience with composites and I think with some plywood, polyester resin, and coat it with bed lining or paint it could look and work pretty good. My M5 is far from being like some of the pristine examples on here. I admire and respect the original e39 m5 however sadly mine is never going to be one. Maybe I should have 2?
Because it was so cheap and pretty far from perfect I want to have some fun with it. What do you guys think? I could always remove the diffuser if it is too much.
I have started the search for seats, so far I like the MOMO start race seats or the Corbeau fx1. I have scrubbed and tried to air out the interior but it still smells like pina colada. I talked to a detail shop about doing an air ionizer on it. sounds promising.

Removed 25lbs of more stuff from the trunk today. Its funny because I have bought one of these nokia boxes before for a 528i that I had. I hooked it to an aftermarket amp and it sounded great. Now I am removing one lol. 40lbs so far from the trunk. Wait until a get the Braille!

I keep thinking that I am gong to find something cool. The motorola BMW flip phone is pretty neat. I remember on the e30 m3 site s14.net a guy found a smuggling compartment. Now that is cool!

I will need some help in the future figuring out all that I can remove as far as the nav and amp ect. If anyone is an audio person on here I would love to hear if there is a way to just use an amp and run just front speakers with an iphone? I would like to remove all the factory audio. Another option is the eonon, I have one in my X5 and works OK
Cheers!

You aren't going to like me. Haha. My cousin and I just bought one similar to this because my touring wanted a S62 and his LS Turbo motor needed a home...Sorry?

Did a few reversible "Mods". Plasti dip Aston Martin influenced mouth and Porsche inspired TAG decals.
