Intro and Car Journal, my 2003 M5 Dinan S2

Long time lurker and M3 guy (E92 M3 daily driver, E36 M3 track car) and finally purchased the ultimate family sedan I've wanted for years. Tomorrow morning I board a flight with a friend from Columbus, OH to Orlando, FL to go pick up my new 2003 M5 and start the drive back home. This E39 is a 1-owner car which had the Dinan S2 package installed immediately when new. Carbon Black over black Heritage/Luxury (M1SW). I had to concede on a few options (rear sunshades, rear folding seats, sport interior), but this car was just too great to pass up.

Going to be hard getting sleep tonight!

Pics of car/journey to follow.....

Congrats on a great find. Miles? Condition?

Take comfort, literally, in the standard rear seats. They are more contoured and comfortable than the flat fold-down version (side benefit of added rigidity of body).

As one arrives here, one departs it seems. Mine is almost on its way after more than 14 years in my care.

Current stable:

2019 M2 Competition 6MT LBB, slicktop
2011.5 M3 sedan 6MT Silverstone, slicktop: Dinan front swaybar, Eibach rear swaybar, pins-out-max-camber-up-front, Dinan exhaust, Michelin PS4S, Apex EC-7 9.5/10.5x19
2007 328i wagon Silver/gray: Eibach 28mm front swaybar, E93 M3 rear swaybar, 219M M3 wheels, Michelin PSAS3+
1975 CanAm 125MX2: Stock, original owner

Update from the road, day 1 was a success. After our 6AM flight, we had some time to kill so hit up an Orlando Cars and Coffee. Met with the seller in Daytona Beach, shook hands and headed North to visit with friends in Savannah for the night. Highly recommend The Ordinary Pub!

Ok the car... 2003 M5, carbon black on black heritage/luxury. 97k miles, interior is extremely clean (seats look new), it’s amazing how you can preserve things when one takes proper care. Paint is very good but needs some areas addressed. Single owner car with documentation back to day 1. Has M-Audio. Needs rear mirror, cluster pixels addressed but otherwise solid. Installed aux cable this morning to avoid the onslaught of country stations thru the Carolinas.

Headed out to meet an old friend for lunch in Charlotte. More to follow but this car is frickin’ awesome!

I guess it's a serious sign of age when I look at this picture and am fixated on the boattail spider and don't even see the modern Porsches (although just noticed what looks like a late 70s/early 80s 911SC Targa on left).

Congrats OP! Looking forward to seeing your progress on it. 1-owner cars are harder and harder to find these days. Well worth the trip.

Honestly, the Spider is the most interesting car in that photo. Just ask this guy.
