It is a pain, but mostly because there's almost zero space between the head of the screw (which is a PZ1 or PZ2 bit, not Phillips) and the plastic piece on either side...

Other than that, it's just plenum off.

EDIT: A small Chapman ratchet comes in handy:

Are you doing all this work yourself?
My buddy / cousin is a former BMW Master Tech / foreman. He's doing most of the intensive work.

So you have three E39 M5's?

It's right near the CPS, once you get the plennum off it's easier. On the driver side, it's more complicated, the cabin filter is in the way and so are some of the lines.

Stop it, you are giving me bad ideas! Like buying another low-mileage garage queen E39 M5 and starting to drive mine again. Or keeping mine as a garage queen and buying a medium-milage one to DD. I need more garage space. Or a lift!

Valve covers back on, and a little detailing too.

I posted this in a different thread, i just picked up a re-wrapped crinkle leather steering wheel with leather trim.

Plenum is back on.

Oil has been changed, yes “I use it.”

Waiting for replacement rubber “feet” we threw out for the bottom of the radiator.
