Thinking of upgrading the M audio. Need some advise.

My Nokia subs are starting to rattle even at low-mid volume and I've been thinking of upgrading the entire system to something that's better out there. I'm not looking to spend a whole of lot of money. Think of it more like a budget build or at least an improvement to the current M audio system. Any advises or recommendations on where to start looking at would be appreciated.

Danku.

Bavsound was one of the better options, but they have nothing for the M audio anymore. I recall reading past posts about custom setups, but they were all piecemeal and required lot of modifications to fit properly.

Everyone's too full of turkey to reply......

If you want good quality bass for cheap, and have the time, you could do what I did. Single JL Audio 8W3v3 in a home made enclosed box. Bolted up to the rear deck sub opening. Sealed off the other deck opening.

It may not be the subs themselves. I was getting a good bit of rattle; did some searching here and elsewhere, and wound up pulling the back deck, and adding some foam and double-sided tape between the metal decking and the insulation layer that goes on top of it. The insulation has a paper backing of some kind that lays against the metal, and over time I think it has hardened or become less flexible, and it rattles/flaps against the metal depending what kind of music is playing.

After adding the tape and foam here and there, the rattle is gone for now. No idea how long this fix will keep but for now I'm pretty pleased. YMMV.

Did a quick search on threads started by Brian as I thought he fixed something to do with rattles and the M-audio subs: https://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39...e-picture.html

Best upgrade to the factory subs is the addition of an amplifier for the subs. The Nokia box isn't bad when you give it more power. Rate is fixed by securing the rear deck speakers - probably not the sub box itself.

Early on BavSound had an " M Audio Supplement" Which IIRC was re-mounting the cross bridge tweeter on top of the BSW midranges. They later redacted it and just went with "M audio is better, no need".

+1. Despite being pretty punny, they are decent. Now, an independent amp AND M Audio subs it'll be earth rattling

Is this right? so keep all M Audio speakers as is... and just run M-Audio subs w/ aftermarket amp?

(I'm also looking for simple, effective upgrades to the stock M-Audio)

That's an alternative, but it wouldn't be my first one given the m-audio speakers. Best option is a 4 channel amp and new sets of component speakers for front and rear. Eliminate rear and run front only if you are really cash strapped.

Add an amp for the m audio subs.

Done

See my blog for more details. It is pretty easy and can be inexpensive depending on your choice of hardware.
