Came across this image while poking around M5portal.com and remembered you were asking. The A seems constant at 23mm, but Iíve read several different numbers for B. Not sure where the Portal numbers are from, but measured my B dimension and it appears to be 26.5mm as shown.

Trizzuth's 2003 E39 M5 Maintenance Thread

Thanks for the helpful replies here Fellas. On Saturday I took off the old hideous badges, wait to you see this piece of garbage. Iíve always been a fan of how the BMW badges reflect light on the horizon and this is because of the curve given to the face of the badge... ever since I had this car I wondered why I saw that reflection on the 5, but not on the M...well hereís why

New badge still has sticker backing,

Old badge has zero curve to the face

Look at how off the color is on the stripes

Just a fake piece of garbage knock off!

Car looks pretty good Debadged though, I may leave it like this for a while..still waiting for my new five emblem to come in.

Also treated myself to a Christmas present! Dinan axle back exhaust, black grills and new winter floor mats. Also as you can see from the last picture I finally cleaned out my old piece of junk garage just so I could shove the car inside and give her some protection

Hello there, I also went from a 330i to an M5 about 3 years ago. I miss the smooth shifting of the 330i but just about everything else is an improvement (OK gas mileage and cup holders are worse).

FWIW, I got the best improvement by replacing the engine sensors -- especially the throttle position sensors. I would definitely suggest doing them all if they haven't been done recently. Unfortunately working on the back side of the engine is not a lot of fun.

In general, though, I think this car is a lot easier to work on than the 330i. The most difficult part of some jobs is just getting the car up on jack stands, especially the rear.

Another couple of easier projects to consider are engine & transmission mounts. The parts are cheap and both are really easy, especially the transmission.

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for posting up bud! I did have a chance to inspect my transmission mounts when pulling the driveshaft a week or two ago and they looked great..

Finally got around to installing my new black grills and a proper M5 badge on the rear...

This may look a little off but I assure you itís dead straight itís because my picture is angled slightly that it might look a little off...

Just a personal note with no specific pics, also recently installed:

Hella Optilux 3000K yellow fog light bulbs for snow and that thick New England fog,
New front and rear license plates that I ordered when I registered the car, they finally came in awhile ago after several months and went on the car today! Took the rear BMW license plate frame and moved it to the front tow hook mount so it offers some protection around the edge of the plate so you don't cut your legs if you happen to walk too closely to my bumper.

Curved badges were 2001+ cars, and flat on 2000.

Interesting, I was not aware of that. I still think the badge on my car was a piece of Chinese made garbage from the looks of it, and considering my car is a 2003. Looks infinitely better now from the back!

Love these maintenance/resto threads, just picked up an '01 with 190K and already began starting a preventative/replace check list as I begin to refresh this old beauty.
