Trip from NC to MN. Any Attractions?

Hey guys, just bought an M5 from Concord, NC and will be flying out there to pick it up next Friday and driving it back to MN.

Anyone know of any good driving roads on the way that we should hit on the way back?

MapQuest has us going through Huntington VA, Dayton OH, Lafayette IN, Chicago IL, Madison WI, and back to Minneapolis, MN.

We won't have too much extra time considering it is a 21 hour drive but sticking to interstates will probably kill me.

Any suggestions on restaurants, hotels, sites to stop at along the way would be fantastic.

Might have to pick up a V1 before the trip

Oh and I just joined up, obviously. Always browsing and love the info in here. Came from BF and will promote the M3 to track duty

Thanks!

Welcome to the board.

Definitely look into the stretch of the Blue Ridge Pkwy / Great Smoky Expwy between Linville and Tail of the Dragon.

On the presumption that you have seen Chicago, I would definitely swap out the cities/states you mentioned for these: Asheville (Biltmore Estate) - Tail of the Dragon - Knoxville - Nashville - St Louis.

Thanks, I have not been to Chicago so will want to check it out at least for a bit. Maybe stay the night there.

After some planning, it looks like we will probably head to New York and hit DC on the way. Spend most of our time on the coast and use the travel west from New York as just a straight drive home as I don't see that part of the drive to be too interesting anyway.

Oh this thread will be very pic heavy

Wish M5Board had a mobile app to make posting pics from a phone a little easier.

AutoGuide.com has a dedicated client, based off of Tapatalk. There are a few of us here in Chicago (bmwMcrzy, rao, lugnuts, more that I'm forgetting) -- we might all be able to get together on your trip through. The Chicago to MSP drive is quite pretty when going through Wisconsin.

DC and NYC are great. You'd be trading out "a fun drive" for: better sightseeing, hassle of traffic/parking, boring winter-beaten highways. Ironically, visiting both would be easier without a car, thanks to Metro/Subway/Amtrak. To recapture Chicago, I would revise my prior 2 cents to Ashe-TOD-Knox-Indy-Chi. You'll enjoy the ride, regardless of the route.

Route is set!

From Concord, heading up 77 to catch Blue Ridge Parkway thanks to Chowdah. Forgot the Top Gear crew were on that road in the 458, GT3 RS, and SLS.

Only on it for about an hour or so which is ok since we have a lot of miles to cover.

From there, heading to DC for some sightseeing then traveling on until we hit Baltimore. Maybe make it to New Brunswick and get a hotel for the night.

Wake up early and head into Times Square (Hotel already booked). Tour NYC during the day, party through the night ::

Sunday morning is the long haul to Chicago (12 hours). Might find our way to Niagara Falls, haven't decided.

Relax in Chicago Sunday night then it's the last stretch through Wisconsin and into MN.

Should be some great times and a good way to break in the new to me M5
