For me, pre-wired means I have that little round plastic button in the trunk. The pics from the OP helped that I have the brown/white, thicker black, and white wires for the OEM mic. I doubt I have an ULF - but unsure really what that is, so I'm assuming I don't. Sorry my car didn't come with the owners manuals or spec sheet.

Will look into the speed sensitive volume adjustments, I wasn't even aware this was a thing.

ULF is the Bluetooth module itself

I have been wracking my brain for why the mic doesn't work, and I can't figure it out. I confirmed continuity of the wires (not that I would expect them to be broken, but just in case). I'm guessing it's because it's a 3-wire mic (3rd either shield or power) and somehow a mono-input won't work with it (mono mic being what the grom needs).

My next step will be to tap the white and brown/white wires on the mic side (front of car) and probably try to splice in the grom mic to see if that works - which "should" work in theory. At that point if it doesn't then I'll just be truly clueless. I'd imagine that the BMW OEM mic would perform better than some cheapie mic grom provides, but maybe this is the only way since I can't get the OEM mic to work.

You can't get it to work at all or, like in my case, it is very low on volume (people only hear me if I raise my voice well above normal level)?

Come to think about it, the one time I tried calling someone I had to raise my voice a lot - almost shouting - when my friend who was standing outside the car said he could "barely" hear me. Since then, I've just been trying to hail my phone (Android Nexus 5x) by saying "OK Google", which hasn't worked - I haven't tried yelling at my phone yet.

I do note that pressing the face-talk button on the steering wheel (left side), does prompt my phone to launch Google Assistant (the equivalent of saying "OK Google", but then the mic doesn't pic up any audio after that. Again, I haven't tried yelling at my phone though, but I could try that - but then it would be useless since I can't be yelling at the mic the whole time.

Sorry to drum this up but I'm looking for the board. I cannot find the eagle files to have the board made. Does anyone know where they are?

I didn't have a factory installed phone or microphone, so I purchased a used unit from ebay. The Mediabridge has a different connector (molex locking type) than a 1/8" jack, so I just harvested the microphone supplied with the Mediabridge, stripped leads (Red/Black) and tapped into the microphone connector in the trunk as mentioned in the first post. I installed the OEM microphone as per instructions in the headliner sunroof panel as described.

Tested an things didn't work for picking up voice commands. I rewired a cable using an extra OEM microphone connector that was supplied with the used microphone, removed the microphone from the headliner and tried in the trunk... still no response to voice commands.

Lastly, I tapped into the cable in the headliner and connected the cut end of the Mediabridge microphone and had success. Immediate voice command recognition. I just buttoned everything up and taped the cheap Mediabrige microphone to the panel cover.

I've tried polarity change as well, but is the consensus that my OEM Ebay microphone doesn't work? Any other ideas or suggestions? Seems like the wiring is in good order in any case.

Thanks for your time and for the OP efforts in documentation.

Hi Bob - Reviving this thread since I don’t have the permissions to PM you yet and I was wondering if you (or anyone else for that matter) figured out a solution to integrate the OEM mic. Trying to do the same thing but wanted to first check to see if you were able to make it work. If so, and any of you have 5 minutes to jump on the phone and field a few of my stupid questions I would be eternally grateful. Let me know and thanks for any help.

Same story with me. I've changed the mic - but the same result

now heading to ebay to buy a tiny amp for a mic and see how that will work. No other options on the table... I don't think setting gain from 12 to 15 would help...

anyone any updates on this?

regards,
-Hayk
