Is the E39 M5 OEM Clutch and Flywheel LUK?

Hi,

Just a quick question, my clutch is in need of replacing and from past experience I have found many BMW OEM parts can be found from the manufacturer direct at a fraction of the price. Hella for the lights for example. Much cheaper in a Hella box than a BMW box.

Is the BMW OEM Clutch and Mass Flywheel made by LUK?

Clutch Kit here

Flywheel here

Thanks in advance.

Ian

From what I've read on this forum I believe so yes.

Either way thats who I just bought mine from, paid £502 for both inc delivery and vat.

Bought it from here

LUK Clutch Kit | BMW 5 Series 4.9000 2001 | BuyPartsBy

By the way the price from a dealer here in the UK is £980 + Vat Fly wheel and £440 + Vat Clutch

Because I got it from here I was able to buy all the other little bits inside from BMW as well which totaled another £150

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think Autozone sells Luk clutches under their Duralast brand for a fraction of dealer costs. You should be able to verify this by calling someone in customer service or the parts counter who knows what they are talking about. Ebay is loaded down with them as well.

I bought 5,6, 7 and 4 from picture 1.

I bought 1,2 and 3 from Picture 2.

I bought 4 from picture 3, I also bought 3 and 2 as I couldn't quite work out if they were already fitted to the fly wheel just from the pictures so thought better safe than sorry.

Thanks for all the support with the clutch info above.

Out of interest, do many people fit these themselves or pop the car into a decent garage to have it done?

Well I would never try and do it myself (but thats just me) I will be getting it done for me by some one who knows what they are doing.

If you have a good floor jack, high jack stands, air compressor, impact wrench (at least for the guibo bolts), and some special star bits along with a decent mechanical socket and wrench set: go for it. The tranny doesn't weigh that much but a tranny jack is a plus. You will need help if your exhaust is still one piece. Doing it yourself in about a day will save you probably $600 or more. IMO.
