A quick update...

I just saw the car and doors are painted and on, but it's not in a great place to get a photo at the moment. I'm now waiting on a parts order before they can reassemble. I'm replacing the obvious external trim pieces new Hella headlight covers and the gloss black door frame window trims as well as a broken rear quarter blind.

Just before the car went in for this work it began running roughly and I found some Vanos codes. So as soon as it's back I will do the following repairs myself:

- general service including spark plugs, spark plug cover gaskets, TWS oil and all filters
- replace leaking power steering hoses
- replace vanos o-rings & front dust gasket, plus test and repair solenoid pack
- replace 4 x CPS
- replace thermostat and all crankcase breather hoses, plus clean out oil separators
- while plenum is removed, replace all accessible vacuum hoses and fuel tank breather valve
- clean throttle bodies
- drain radiator & block & replace coolant with BMW coolant & demineralised water
- replace misc items ordered

I've already flushed brake / clutch fluid, gearbox & diff oil, and replaced MAFS. After this, I'm not spending any more on it except TWS & filters!!!

I've got to say, a most impressive result so far. I'm really looking forward to catching up with you, Stu, Ben and all the other Sydney/NSW based board members sooner rather than later. Can't wait to see the finished result in person.

Is the shop doing your work in Alexandria? My wife thinks she recognises it from the photos. She thinks it is the massive prestige repair shop on McEvoy St.

Very close - it's at Panel One on O'Riordan St Mascot. Likewise looking forward to catching up with the other Sydney board members as soon as possible! Incidentally I'd like to pass on a massive thanks to Stu M5 for all his help with my parts order and for getting me a great deal via his contact at BMA. I'd be lost without the support of board members

So my parts have all arrived from the US, and will they will start fitting it up mid next week. Hopefully will be finished the following Friday. I'm going to spend Saturday morning fixing my headlight adjusters and fitting the new lenses so I can drop them off next week. Getting excited now! I'll get some updated photos once they get the car down from their mezzanine storage floor and post next week.

It's a shame it's not really driveable until I sort the Vanos out, but I have all the parts so will get straight onto it.

wow, fantastic to see the whole process and the extra shiny end result coming together, you need to enter a club concourse soon after...

make sure you use it often and don't turn it into a garage sculpture!

Guys,

Sorry that updates have been a bit slow. It's still in the shop believe it or not, but I think will be out this week!! They have been taking their time (and I haven't rushed them), and there was a delay on some of the parts that they ordered via the insurance (I think they got the wrong side mirror). I've seen the car and it was 90% back together last Thursday and they had all the parts, but couldn't get a great update photo to post.

It still needed buffing and apparently was going back into the paint booth so they could blow in around the boot / bonnet apertures and over front guard bolts that had been disturbed etc. Should be an amazing job, and I'll post an update with photos as soon as I have it back.

Nick
