Help: Question for those who ordered aftermarket products from Europe

Me and a couple of board members are getting the Kelleners exhaust. However, I have 1 question. For $1125, we will be able to get the exhaust to our local airport.

But I heard that there are import taxes / handling fees levied on these items and I'm wondering anyone of you out there happen to know how much (if any) is the taxes / fees on the exhausts.

Thanks

Swing,

I too have a kelleners exhaust and other stuff. Basically becides the exhaust and shipping fee. There is a duty tax, and a handling fee. Before you do anything you need a customs agent which also requires a fee. I think on top of the exhaust I paid an extra $295 here in the states. I had no idea before I ordered and paid for the exhaust that there was going to be all the added fees. But I will tell you Kelleners exahust is the best sound exhaust you ever here. Ralf Kelleners makes an excellent product and backs it up with excellent service even though we are across the lake.

Good luck

It better not be an extra $300 bucks! That would definitely be a deal breaker for me. We need to figure this out pronto.

Swing are you definitely in? I think we are going ahead today so let 2nd2no1 know if you are ready.

Before I traded my M5 in, I was going to get the Kelleners. The price on top of the exhaust was not $300, I think more like $250 or 275. However, I live in Chicago and about 20 minutes from the airport so I was going to pick it up myself at the airport. You do have to pay duty and shipping though. BTW, I think you guys can get the exhaust cheaper, he was going to sell it to me for $1146. euros which is $1082.46 US You guys have a group buy and should be able to get him down to at least $1000.
Here is what Ralf emailed me back when I was going to get the exhuast.

hi
we still cant give you a complete calculation because we are waiting for an answer from the states.
our prices are all calculated including 16%VAT(for customer service reasons all european prices are always the total price).
but in your case you are importing the exhaust to the states that means 1330 minus 16% vat but you have to pay your VAT(taxes) and the duty.so the price you have to pay to us is 1146.55 euros.
the shipment cost are 280 euros including handling charges.
and the office in chicago has to let us know what is your tax and duty to let you know how much it is going to be all together.
you can find the actual exchange rate in the internet the papers or at your bank.
we can give you the dollar price the day we charge your card.

regards

ralf

*He later emailed me back that duty was $65. So the price is 280 euros for shipping including the handling, customs etc. Which is $264.35 US and 1146.55 euros for the exhaust which is $1082.46 US and $65.00 US for duty. That is all the charges.
Total price US dollars:
exhaust $1082.46
shipping and handling $264.35
Duty tax: $65
Total: $1411.81 (this was not a group buy price)

Call him back make sure he subtracts vat and gives you at leats $100 off what they were offering me. If you need more info let me know.

for that kind of shipping costs, why can't they send it right ot the door? use a normal shipping service like UPS or Fedex, or even German mail...

This is what I got from Ralf concerning fees for the exhaust once it get's the Airport:
"you have to pay your tax, probably 5% duty and the paper work for to prepare it for customs etc."

from what I heard, my state can not charge me taxes on item purchased out of state or out of the country, so 5% duty tax is about $50-$70 USD, how come you paid closed to $300? And how do you get a custom agent? Please explain in detail how you went about getting the exhaust and how much you actually paid for the exaust it self!

I think I would try and get the lowest price possible on the exhaust first. Then ask him to arrange for an importer and shipping so that all you have left to pay once you get the exhaust is duty. You won't have any customs issues or other costs at all. I do not know all the particulars on you deal but, maybe you can get it a little cheaper?? Good luck buddy. if you need anything else, let me know

I will tell you exactly what I paid back in 5/02/01

I had original order 2 Exhausts for my self and M5er.

Kelleners Exhaust $1,036.07 each
Shipping $ 173.48 to Boston Logan Airport.

I was contact by the shipper Pinalpina a week later. Even though it took 1 day to arrive to Boston. Anyways, I was told I need a customs agent to pick up the package, because It has to go through customs and You need an authorized agenet. Contact Bruning Corp. Their fees were as follows:

Duty tax $ 85.84
Consumption Entry fee $ 150.00 The customs agent fee
Airfreight & Service $ 65.00 This is a bulshit fee
Single entry Bond fee $ 45.00

Was told I had to get a bond because the total price was over $2000.

Hope this helps.

I was able to get a good price because I also bought Kelleners ECU, Sport suspension and Sport cats.

Hey Tfung,

I original asked that question regarding UPS or FeDex. The cost becausr of the weight would have been tripple plus you still have to pay the duty tax.

thanks for the 411. I just emailed Ralf with the link to this post, so hopefully he can give us some enlightment on the issue. I was under the impression that we were only going to pay an additional $50-$100 at the most once it gets to the Airport. From what I get with your numbers, we are only saving about $80 with this GB, I thought it would be a lot more. Either way, from what I heard, Ralf is a great guy to deal with, so hopefully this deal will still go on
