A piston ring broke and allowed oil to get up the bore where it was burnt and caused smoking and all of the unwanted things things that happen when a piston ring breaks .

Pioneers often face bumps in the road and I'm sorry to hear that this revolutionary project faces challenges. I hope it moves forward, and all the best with it.

No doubt , Matty .

We knew , prior to taking on this build , that we were the first E34 M5 specialists to take on the project and thus expected teething problems.

Any number of things can happen.

In this instance , the engine was stripped and the cause of the failure attributed to the piston design .

Thus a 3 ring piston has been specced and we are currently awaiting delivery.

Hola chaps and apologies for the delay in updating .

Anyone who knows me outside of cyberspace knows how busy I've been .

Meanwhile , PPM have finally redesigned the pistons to incorporate 2 compression rings and one oil control ring . The compression ratio will be reduced slightly as a result .

We are just awaiting delivery of the revised pistons and this show will be back on the road .
