Adaptor plate for M5x transmissions!

Thought i would share this in here as well, since my G280 has a completely shot 2nd gear synchro, and the third gear synchro is on its way to death as well. Ive been considering getting it rebuilt, which is expensive, and takes a lot of time where the car needs to stand without a transmission. Ive also been considering the "MM ultimate Getrag 265", which also is expensive as fuuk, especially when customs charges gets put on. Also been considering getting the 6 speed from an E35M5 3.8, but as we all know, those are also big bucks, and almost impossible to obtain now adays.

Enter the crazy swedes:

Växellåds Adaptrar : ZF Adapter Plate ZF to M10/M30/S14/S38

Ive just sent them a mail asking for further information.

So now the plentyfull, cheap and strong ZF boxes from everything from a E36 328i to a E90 335i is available for our old S38's.

Great find, price is pretty good about $520 USD plus shipping and duties it probably would be around $600.

Please post this in the E34 M5 forum as well, there is a lot more traffic and more demand for this solution there:

Now the decision is which ZF? Plenty of options.

Just shared it in the E34 forum as well.

Ive been in contact with the owner since yesterday, and he stopped doing it with the longer input shaft, instead he is making custom billet flywheels, so you can change the gearbox without having to change the input shaft.

When talking with him on mail prices are different as well

Quote:
I have diffrent solutions for it. Before I used to change in the inputshaft to a longer one. But nowdays I make custom flywheels that will move the pilotbearing into the flywheel so you're original ZF gearbox will fit drecly. Depending what clutch you want to use ?
Quote:
We cnc regrind S38 camshaft and have alot of knowlegade for that engine too

Approx prices are:

~300usd for the adapter

~2-300usd for the billet flywheel

~300-900usd clutch depending if its sachs performance single disc or zf motorsport 7.25, 5.5 or 8.5"

They did not. With driveshaft im sure something from the BMW model range will be compatible. This depends on the gearbox it self ofc.
If youre only going for the 5 speed ZF out of an 328i/528i/M3 (E36/E39) E28Goodies mentions in their S54 swap that a stock M30 or M21D24 driveshaft would work. Im pretty new to E28's, are they as easy swapable as an E30? Where you can take almost every drive shaft from almost every newer BMW?

Gearbox can be anything bolted to an M50 and everything later up until the N54, as long as it has 6 cylinders. A bunch of the 4 cyl gearboxes would work as well. 320d E46 six speed ZF for example. As long as the starter is the right place, so you can ofc not use a gearbox from a N47 engine.

Mounts would have to be custom, at least thats my guess, same with linkage. So if you cant weld yourself, i wouldn't begin this swap, or if youre to cheap to pay someone else to do it.

Ill have to check on what will swap into the E28, dunno how swappable they are but there likely is a stock solution from another chassis.

No problem on the welder, Ive got a miller sitting in the garage that can handle SS and aluminum, though my welding skills are so so.

Hi Loupoz,

Did the Swedes ever get back to you?

I'm interested in this kit as well. I'm in a need of a gearbox for my S38 powered e28, and since it's much easier to source a ZF box from another beemer, than G280 or G265, at least in my country, I'm toying with an idea of going this route. My concern is this kit's compatibility though, with various boxes available to me.

Kudos for the find.
