E39 for Sale

This is a preliminary post, and I will update it in detail later. But I have decided to part ways with my 2001E39 M5. It’s the beautiful Anthracite Metalic color, with black luxury complete leather. 180,000 miles now and runs fantastic, and performs the same now as it did when I bought it with 67,000 miles. The clear bra front end protection has done an absolutely amazing job, leaving the front bumper rock chip free, but I will be peeling it off because the edges are starting to separate with age. Above this clear protection on the hood, there are five or six rock chips. You already know all the positive attributes of an E39 M5, so I won’t even talk the car up or try to sell it to you regarding any of these amazing things. I’ll tell you things that are wrong instead. I will let this go for just about the lowest price you can find on the market. (When I say this I refer to a Autotrader, the most popular used car website). Simply put, the wheels need refurbishing, they have the cracking/paint chipping issue that happens over time, and one wheel has some curb rash. I think there was a place in the Carolinas recommended through this forum that does better than factory work on these wheels, and it was under $1000, however that was years ago, prices may have gone up by now. There are a couple small dents that need to be pulled. They can use some tiny spot touchups, however at a body shop that wants to do factory quality work, they would repaint the hood and blend onto the fenders. I have fixed things overtime such as typical Vanos issue, bad solenoid. Also replaced flex disc, and UV joint, along with driveshaft rebuild. No leather tears, amazing lack of wear considering high mileage. Little things like cigarette lighter does not have power, probably an extremely easy fix. Also six disc CD changer needs placement, but they are easily available and inexpensive on eBay. I’ve replaced two power window motors, and the third needs replacement, however I can do this prior to purchase. Driver power window never has a problem, probably because it’s used enough that the wire cable never corrodes (this is what went wrong with the other three power motors, since I rarely used those the cables get tired of sitting, and seize up and snap). There are a couple spots where something rubbed against paint, a good buffing will remove these. If I get these things fixed, I will also try to recover $2-$3K more for the car in sale price. Letting it go at a bargain price, means you buy it easy, and you get this work done. Or just drive it! An amazingly reliable car, I would drive across country today with no hesitation! I know you want pics, I will get back to this with more, or email in private with more questions, pictures, etc. I’m looking for $10,000 obo

Again sorry for the quick write up. When I mentioned hood paining, I was referring to rock chips above the clear bra. Also, forgot to mention why I am letting it go. Absolutely love the car, planned to keep it forever when I bought it in 2008. Recent divorce has me parting ways with some things I must sell. The M5 simply is not used much anymore. I split daily driver use between a minivan, and a Diesel VW rabbit pick up, which are both wonderfully practical for kids, commuting, and utility. Send me a message with questions.
