Dear Board,

The time has come for me to part ways with my beloved 2002 M5. I have owned the car for almost 6 years and bought it almost stock with 75K miles. For the first two years (while it was mostly stock) I daily drove the hell out of it and put about 45K miles on it. Thereafter, I bought a daily driver and this car turned into a garage queen. I got the front end (bumper, hood and fenders) and rear bumper re-sprayed due to road rash, and since then I have been baby-ing the car. I have put tens of thousands into this car and the car looks as good as it runs. Unfortunately, I no longer have time to enjoy it and my priorities have changed, so on she goes to a good home.

Basics:
  • Title: Clean
  • Exterior: Carbon Black (9.5/10)
  • Interior: Black Sport with Aluminum Trim (9.5/10)
  • Mileage: ~135K
  • Price: $26,500

Modifications: I have installed all the modifications listed below during my ownership.
  • ESS VT-560 (Newest Rendition of their Supercharger kit) with 92mm Pulley/Speedhut Boost Gauge
  • Sealed Lower Plenum, Aluminum Plenum Lid and Custom CCV Set Up
  • Evolve Headers
  • HJS Race Cats
  • Resonated X-Pipe
  • Muffler Delete with Vibrant Tips
  • Authentic BBS LM’s 19x8.5F and 19x10R with Michelin PSS's with plenty of life left
  • Ceika Coilovers
  • BSW Speakers
  • Alpine Amp And Sub
  • Alcantara Steering Wheel
  • Alcantara Shift Boot, E-Brake Boot And E-Brake Handle
  • ZHP Shift Knob
  • E60 Shifter with Rogue WSR
  • Slimmbones Front Lip, Hamann Style Fog Light Covers, Finned Rear Diffuser
  • Matte Black Kidneys
  • Euro Headlights lenses
  • LED AE’s
  • 3500K Fogs
  • UUC Bushings
  • Tinted windows

All maintenance is up to date except for the issues listed further down below. I have done most of the work on the car myself so I don't have many receipts, but I do have some. I never though I'd sell so I never took care to organize my records. Accordingly, below is a list of maintenance items I have taken care of with approximately milage where I can remember.

Maintenance Done since taking ownership:
  • Entire front end suspension overhaul (all arms, including control arms, center link, idler arm, thrust arms - really anything you can think of) 110K
  • Clutch 100K
  • Brakes 105K
  • All four CPS
  • Fuel pump, filter and regulator 120K
  • Battery
  • Vapor barriers
  • Vanos refresh including cleaning of solenoids and replacement of all seals 115K
  • Valve cover gasket
  • Power steering lines
  • Vacuum lines 130K
  • Oil change countless times
  • New oil pan 75K
  • Head light adjusters replaced
  • Pixels repaired
  • Rear sun-shade repaired
  • Window regulators
  • Twisted seats
  • Rear view mirror repaired

I'm sure there has been more maintenance done, but those are the things that are currently coming to mind. The car drives like a top right now though and a PPI is welcome.

I'm sure I have missed a few things, but questions are welcome.

Price: $26,500

Big price drop to $23,999. Motivated to get this sold without having to part it out.

I had a look at Allen's car about a week and a half ago. It is stunning, and an amazing amount of car for the money. The SC install is perfect, complete with alu plenum cover and ultra clean boost gauge install (LED matches interior lighting and looks completely factory mounted in the fog light switch location).

Overall cosmetic condition is phenomenal as well. You can tell it is well kept and doesn't double as a daily commuter. Headlights look brand new, no paint flaws that I could see. Interior is pristine as well. Sub & amp are easily removable if that's not your thing.

I did see typical leaks in the PS system. Luckily with the drivers side intake removed these are easily replaced.

I decided not to buy it because it is too much car for me. I've generally been looking at lower mileage, stock M5s. But I knew I'd kick myself later if I didn't at least have a look. If someone wanted to build this car they'd spend gobs more, and still might not end up with a car as clean as this.

Just thought I'd share a first-hand account. Current pricing matches what I was expecting to pay if we started negotiating (and believe me I was tempted).

Will do.

Dave,

The car is leaving, but I'm not. Just time for it to go.

All, after 6 more years of occasional driving and fun I sold the car this past weekend. It was a pleasure being part of the board and getting to know so many of you. If anyone feels like they missed out, the buyer has relisted it in San Diego for about 50% more than he paid me for it.

I didn't even know this car was still for sale since the original post was from back in 2015. Such a missed opportunity!
