Just purchased Dinan free flow exhaust from a fellow member, and I wanted to find out what x-pipe or straight pipe that would compliment with it. Thanks guys!

How much louder did the Dinan High Flow Middle Racing Exhaust make your car? I don't want to be crazy loud.

i'd go straight pipe if you want to go a cheaper route

I have got the supersprint xpipe, any decent exhaust shop should be able to make it. Don't get the straight pipe as it will effect your back pressure.

There was a study done on this board by RPI or someone, but I haven't searched to find out exactly....but what I do remember is that the X pipe had a 10 WHP difference or something similar compared to the straight pipe. I wouldn't do a straight pipe based on the dyno runs.

VERY much so! Have lots of catching up to do but just gutted my cats and will be installing the Hartge Springs next. Sent my car data to Evolve last week and am now waiting for them to send my tune back via email. Then the last thing to do is install the nitrous system. Have another 4 weeks off before going back to Langey so that'll give me enough time to get caught up.

Hi Guess55: did you gut yuor cats or bought catless headers from Evolve? did you notice any turbulence with out cats, droning? and whats the performance difference? torque? etc

I bet your fuel economy has increased since its running richer.

regards

Running "richer" will actually decrease fuel economy but these cars will adjust to the decrease in backpressure and optimize air to fuel ratio. Fuel economy will increase due to the decreased backpressure and any decrease in backpressure is always a good thing. It is nothing but a "wives tale" that you need some backpressure. If sound was no object, the ideal exhaust system for the most HP/torque would be about a 3 foot long piece of straight pipe after the header collector.

my xpipe is the only mod i got on my car and i think there is a difference (performance wise) from stock application. i did upload some vids overhere on one of these X-H pipe debate threads.

btw nice hearing ur back home USAF, hopefully ur next tour will be to the 380th Expeditionary :D. been working together with them for years and have to say great ppl and very cooperative. enjoy your beast while ur home

Hi Guys, just came across this post. I'm looking for a bit more sound without going too much!

But now I read about back pressure. I hear that evolve take an x pipe and blank off the x so it keeps them separate, which is in effect what I will be doing. There are so many ways to go, will this give me what I want?

I've bought this off Minty, can't wait to get it on! (Just the straight pipes not the de cat)

Decat and straight mid-pipes for sale.

My dad has an inspection pit in his garage and I'm going to attempt it on Thursday night.

I've bought 4 of these clamps (didn't want to pay BMW ÂŁ30+ vat each!!)

I've just had a look and just after the cat's there is a braket that fits under the exhaust, the OEM exhaust is "flattened" at this point, so how do I get this one on, is there enough play or do I need a new bracket??

Help please otherwise I can't get it on in time for the ring & Le Mans!!

The entire engine has to be tuned as a unit from intake, to cam/fuel/spark timing, to exhaust. Compromises are made at some points to help at others. The S85 is tuned for (relatively) high-RPM power output. It needs some backpressure to enhance scavenging at high rpm for peak hp, but not so much that kills low end power output. This article explains the concepts a bit.
