I’m looking to find out set which 17” OEM BMW wheel will clear e39 M5 front brakes.

I have an e39 540i wagon with e39 M5 brakes and E60 wheel bearings with 72.6mm center bore so I’m not limited to E39 OEM wheels with 74.1mm center bore.

So far I know style 49 and 66M will clear the brakes but does anyone know of any other oem 17” wheel with 74.1mm or 72.6mm center bore that will fit (hopefully without using a spacer but I’m open to it)? Any help will be very much appreciated.

Yes I know. I have a hard time finding an 8” square setup in a decent shape and reasonable price.

most 17 will fit, just check the inner barrel if its smooth (without hump) then you should be ok. if you changed the cb, why bother with oe with so many choices now open to you.

Thanks for the info, but according to my research there are very select few oem 17” wheel will fit. The only ones guaranteed are style 66M and 49. Unfortunately I can’t check the wheel barrel before buying it online . That’s the reason I am posting here so I find out which specific wheel will fit before buying it.

Found out the hard way 17" style 42s do not fit. Just sold my set of 66s and they do fit.

um yeah the 66 and 49 are spec to fit cause their cb is 74.1. almost any 17 will fit if the inner barrel is smooth and doesnt have the hump. 2 pieces wheels the inner barrel is like 1 inch smaller than a monoblock wheel.

Style 66 is just plain the way to go. Proper fit, good width as almost all are 8" wide (only the rare touring rears I think are 9"), OE BMW wheels so they 'match,' and frankly IMO they're some of the best looking wheels out there. I know 65s kinda go hand in hand with the M5 but frankly on their own or for any other car, I think the more open 66 is actually arguably better looking, and certainly easier to clean! TLDR, just get some 66s and close the book on this one.

I have a set of the 17" Style 66 rims I'm going to list for sale soon - where are you located? They fit my 03 M5 perfectly, but I no longer 'need' them since I also have a 2nd set of Style 37 M-Parallels to use when I don't want to use the factory rims.
