A neighbor of mine recently test drove a new 645ci at the dealership and was totally impressed by it. So much so that he wants to buy one now.
He currently owns a '98 740i, and has always purchased used cars. He talked to a friend of his who has an auction license, this guy claims he can get him a 645ci with about 3K miles on it for about $50,000 (wholesale)! He also said there are many more with similiar mileage/prices  Last time I checked, a new one runs about $75,000!

What is the deal with the price? Has anyone bought a car off auction, or have an auctioneers' license? Are there E39 out there going for lowball figures? I know about depreciation and all that, but that is some serious depreciation and conversly quite a markup by the dealerships as used 645ci go for close to $70,000.

If that is the case, I may wait on the E60 M5.

Check recent thread, I think by MPowerChicago, he is posting auction prices on E39 M5's from the Mannheim auction. Or search for Mannheim auction, you should get it that way.

From what I understand, the newer model BMWs are not haolding their value as their previsou versions due to a lackluster economy, debating views on looks, etc. This has especially been the case with the new 7 series which can be had in the 50s for a one year old model! I would definately look into getting a car from your friend at an auction if you have the chance.

You Raaang? Well, allow me to introduce myself. Kidding aside, let me shed some light into these wholesale figures by providing you with the actual recent Manheim wholesale on the vehicles you alluded to. I was in the biz for a while but have since moved onto other ventures so know a bit of this. I believe my other thread has what these numbers mean so you can refer to that. Let me know if this does / does not help and I'll try to provide further clarification. BTW, the data is the same data your friend's buddy should have access to so no rocket science going on here.

Here you go,

645ci for $50K, not likely as you can see unless it's salvage / unibody / frame damage. I'd be very suspicious -- you know the old saying about things looking too good to be true...

Mpowerchicago,
Thanks for shedding some light on the subject. I thought that $50K was wishfull thinking on his part. There seems to be a pattern developing in which the newer BMW styles (6 &7) are being returned? I imagine that these folks must have taking a bath on depreciation.
Regarding the listing, what is the difference between "Factory" and "Regular"? Thank you.
