I would be interested to know what members think my car is worth. The only reason I ask is becasue of the mileage and due to job change I might need to sell it.

Here is the Spec

1992 m5 3.6
Champane Leather interior in very good condition and all electrics working
Macau Blue with rear spoiler
8J/9J throw star alloys with good tyres (In need of refurb)
Aircon (needs regassing)

The car has 198k miles on it. ONly two years ago the mileage was 120k! So basic proof that its just done motorway miles.

NO gearbox whines, diff whines or groans

NO rattles and squeaks

Loads and loads of work done inc gearbox rebuild, timing chain done, new suspension (springs and shocks).

The faults are that the steering box has about 3 inches play (which M5 doesnt!) and the allooys need refurbing.

The amount of money spent on this thing is just unreal and it has FSH (Main dealer and specialist)

What do you guys reckon? Just to add, it drives excellently.......as stated by Bexley Motorworks when they drove it. But then they expected it to drive well because its just sat on a motorway all the time and driven in a straight line with constant revs most of the time.

Thanks

£10 sounds quite reasonable!

Ive seen ones with broken engines go for £3000. I think £4000 would be a good price. Yes people are put off the mileage but with everything nearly rebuild and replaced its likely a lower mileage car will actually cause more problems.

Theres lots of little stuff thats been chaned aswell like the DME /ECU, throttle position sensor, engine mounts, gearbox mounts, control arms, rear subframe bushes. Just add up the cost of changing this lot and your looking at £1500!

Unfortunately now seems like a bad time for selling M5's, but I guess it just depends on how many people are looking for one at any one time.

I'd guess your car is worth around £3k, although if you were lucky I don't think getting £4k would be impossible. Did you see what it sold for on ebay before you bought it?

Cheers,
Bryn.

I'm not sure it came from ebay. I dont really know to be honest.

Why's it not a good time to sell M5'? Theres a few on Autotrader with 150k going for 6k and some that have been sold for that.

Remember, some onf the cheaper ones are real sheds (i went to look at them). I bought this one for a very good reason, its been maintained to the highest level, the owner just changed things when they went wrong.

Some of the cheaper 3.8's have problems with them aswell........think cracked heads! SOmething youll only find out after youve bought it!

I would definately think a 3.6 would be worth £4k in this condition, I dont see what the big fuss about mileage is if everything that goes wrong has been replaced.

Just to add, a real dog of an m5 with 200k on it with minimal SH went for £3200 last month. Avus blue, electurc seats failed, no aircon working at all, one door card missing, Fake later M5 alloys, tatty bodywork, the mnost dangerous suspension and it just drove horrible all round. And he had quite a few people after it for that money!

Hi Cyrus
Saw the pics of your car. Looks very neat.
BTW im sure you clocked the front wheels have the throwing stars pointing in the opposite direction of rotation...Just a case of taking the tyres off & swapping n/s to o/s . Little things like that make the difference to those in the know IMHO.

Hope you persevere with the M5

Regards
Farrell

Decided I'm keeping after a really good drive today.

Farrell, yes Ive noticed that a while back now but havent been bothered to do it.

I'm not far from making this car an excellent driver. Everyone gets shocked when they lok at the condition and find out the mileage. They are even more surprised when they drive it and find such a massive surge at 4000rpm ++.
Mileage is just a number for a car thats been properly maintained.

Thanks for the comments! Its going to get the wheels refurbed and dechroming. I'm considering putting the wider grill and bonnet on it but thats far far away yet.
