I got my first ticket playing around with a chick in a Charger SRT. I kicked her butt, but she had pretty big smile on her face when she passed me as I was getting pulled over and ticketed for 90 in a 60.

I need a radar detector, any thoughts on what's a good one.

Thanks!

I'm in the market for one as well and considering the Escort 9500. For the folks who say V1, why would you choose it over the 9500?
Thanks,

+1

The only thing better would be to have a jammer to go along with the V1.

Directional arrows and bogey counters. Yes, if it only had laser jamming included, it would be unbeatable.

I do understand that the new Escort includes laser jammers, anyone familiar with it? Laser is starting to get popular in H town so may need to add jammers.

You must not have had a good race in awhile.. I wouldn't even push my foot for a Charger SRT -- it's like hitting yourself in the face even though you know it will hurt.. :p The result is obvious...

I assume you were hit with radar and not laser?

Most of the guys on the M6 board are using V1 paired with Laser Interceptor jammers (some use front and rear transponders but most just have front).

I recommend you take a look at the INDEPENDENT testing results for both radar and laser at Radar Detector Tests and Reviews by Guys of LIDAR -- it's really a great site and pretty much supports the V1 / Laser Interceptor combo. I use the Escort 9500 personally, but will probably switch to the V1 due to the directional arrows.

Any opinion on whether the rear laser jammer is worth it? Also is it worth buying the higher powered version?

The rear protection really depends on your city and the cities you regularly travel within. You'll need to ask around or visit some of the radar/laser forums to find out the answer to that. Also, keep your eyes peeled as to if your local LEOs are setting up speed traps that suggest they are shooting to the rear.

Generally (as I understand it), they like to shoot the front of the vehicle using the license plate to aim -- this gives them the best chance at a solid read.

As far as the higher power units, those are normally meant for larger vehicles such as RVs and bigger trucks. Having to choose between the two, I'd go for rear protection on standard strength before I'd shell out for higher power (but higher power and rear protection is the ultimate setup, obviously).

Considering rear install is a motherbear job, I'll probably just go with the "ultimate setup" mentioned above and be done with it. It's too easy to get buck wild in the beast and I don't mind paying a bit more for better peace of mind.

I second the 9500. Super quiet around town. The gps cuts out a lot of noise. Had a v1 and arrows are cool and can really help you out, but it made a lot more noise on daily commute.

V1 all the way...may annoy some people by all the noise it makes around town, but I can tell you it has saved me many times...I'd rather hear a few extra beeps if that's what it takes to avoid a ticket...

Wait before you buy anything as the V1's patent on the dual antennae system for the arrows runs out on the 25th of February. There may be some new detectors released shortly after, or nothing could happen at all.

the v1 is the best "portable" radar out there. I have both the 9500 escort in my gti. the 9500 is really nice being fully installed in the car. is is very stealth and very accurate. it even lets me know when trains are near by, security vehicles, and police cars in maryland and some other states.
