Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has actually got everything on their car working/finished?
Despite all my best efforts I still seem to have an ever increasing list of things to do. I don't mind really as its all part of the enjoyment of owning the car. So here is my list:

1. Fix/replace washer jets.

2. Fit new wiper linkage

3. Sort out central locking 'double bounce'

4. Improve headlights, HID's?

5. Repair front bumper & replace trim

6. Refurbish wheels

7. Refurbish leather

8. Full respray.

It could be a lot worse.:checkeredflag:

Other than replacing a leaking headlamp washer hose and a front end respray mine is holding up well at the moment.

However, I will be chekcing the car for rust over the next couple of weekends so am sure that list is about to grow......furthermore, something is bound to break on the next 'Ring' trip.

Cosmetics always comes far down the list with my cars , with solid mechanics taking top spot ......

The perverse thing is that most of the uninitiated place more importance on a car looking clean !

These cars were made to be driven .......

Fitting the 345mm brakes I have bought over a year ago, having the front seats leather retrimmed, Alcantara pillars + headliner + parcel shelf , Turbines refurbished , full respray in AAA quality including 4 new doors, new bootlid , camber plates up front, ACS E46-style strutbrace, OEM BMW radio with front CD loader, stainless OEM exhaust copy

And that's just the M5. M535i's a lot worse!

Totally agree with you. The very last thing on my list is the respray and I wouldn't be surprised if I never get to do it.
Getting the car running and handling properly is really what its about. No harm in it looking good as well though :)

My current priority item is to get my SLS sorted.

Both shocks visibly "damp" with oil. Worst is the one closest to the exhaust silencer.

Replace leaking rear dampers
Poly bush the whole car
Replace knocking front drag arms
Upgrade to S50 tensioner (being done this week after the original fell apart)
New pads
New discs if neccesary (brakes are very grumbly at the moment)
Refresh of the braking system (new pipes, fluid)
New rear tyres
Paint front bumper and valance

There's probably a few i've missed off the list, but it all needs to be done at some point!!!

Ooh, good question.

Rough list as follows:

  • Refresh all bushes and check steering/ dampers for sustainability
  • repair minor rust spots on the passenger door and round the fuel filler apperature
  • Refresh all engine hoses and ancilleries
  • Full respray with spoiler delete

Steve took exceptional car of my car so my list is mainly preventative...

-change all front axle components...arms,tie-rods,sway bar bushes etc.
-buy 2 front edc shocks :eek:oohhh:...current ones are good though...but you never no and don't want to be left without the car due to this...ouch that hurts..
-buy a gearbox...just a spare .
-brake pads all round....i get some fade with current ones
-repair minor rust spot
-Stereo......still trying to work out what my strategy will be....keep it stock or do a stealth install.

Thats it for now....driving on highways in Nigeria is almost like driving on a track so my emphasis is on the suspension of the car.

Engine is in a perfect state of tune ( thanks to Farrell )......any chance of coming down here when its time to do the valves again ?:hihi:...all expenses paid..?

Even if there was nothing that needs doing I'm sure I'd find something....'cause as Dan states....Its part of the fun in owning these cars !

Cheers

Build a garage or car port to keep the thing protected from
the elements !

Other than that finding a spare 3K to do a full suspension rebuild
and take it back to how it felt with 35k on the clock !

hmm, it would be easier to say what's not on the to do list, or what i've already done!

Car doesn't really 'need' anything, but i'd like to:

-it needs a wash!
-fix vibration at 37mph, probably driveshaft related
-different springs, not liking what i have currently, bilsteins are ok though
-center console, has hole from the factory phone
-drivers seat bolster needs some attention
-could use a little more front suspension freshening (did the thrust arms)
-could use some more rear suspension freshening (did pitman arms)
-would like 345mm front brakes
-a 6 speed gearbox would be fun
-engine and gearbox mounts
-better audio speakers (did the bmw cd43 cd player, which i like)
-bigger anti roll bars, (maybe just the rear)

Are the Pitman arms those dog bone shaped suspension links?

What sort of effect do you get from worn units?

To do....well being done this week.

Oil service
New plugs
More serious pads, hoses and fluids installed
Am having drivers seat bolsters replaced

And other than spending £1600 before Christmas on all sorts of bits and bobs with my local specialist....hopefully not much more to be done in 2008.
