I'll try.... how about the sound of a machine grinding rocks into pebbles? You must have heard the sound of an idling 18-wheeler - just take that sound and turn the volume down.

Drive down to your closest Ford dealership, and ask them to start up and idle a turbo-diesel pickup...clack-clack-clack-clack....

I've read a lot about this vanos noise. Is it just annoying or is there any potential for damage to the engine? I happen to like the noise but am concerned about the potential for damage. Does anyone know?
