I got a mail earlier this week that ended with the line "Please RSVP to ...".

Can any native english speaking person explain it to me?

Thanks

It stands for "respondez s'il vous plait" - French for "please reply".

If you receive an invitation or letter with RSVP on it, you are expected to reply and tell the sender whether, for example, you will or will not be attending an event.
