Re: VMAX SPEEDS

Speeds were actually higher than last time by 4-5mph for most cars.

The winning speed of 192mph was lower though, but thats because mine and Adam's Ruf's weren't there this time (which did 196mph/195mph last time). Both cars would have had a good shot at 200mph within the limited distance this time, given the slightly better conditions on the day.

I took my 545i down the runway this time and it easily hit the restricted 154mph top speed. Picture is below:

I guess the above runs were at Bruntingthorpe in the UK?

If so, I managed to hit 180mph out of three runs (from a standing start at the bottom of the runway) in my CL55 AMG

Re: VMAX SPEEDS

Dave,

Brunters is the same length as Woodbridge (I checked using Satellite photos of both). When I data-logged the runs at a previous VMax the distance was about 1.6 miles, so the same as at TV, so don't expect higher speeds (remember the Ruf Yellowbird that won at TV last year did 189?, but 195 at VMax).

The corner at Brunters is done for fun (and to save doing hard launches), it adds no speed to the runs, as whilst you carry speed through the corner, you lose time accelerating (which you can do full-bore on the straight but not in a bend). We have tested several cars both ways and there was only ever up to 2mph or so difference between standing start and using the corner (some cars were faster with the corner, some slower).

Juat so you know the facts.....

See you at TV.

Re: VMAX SPEEDS

If memory serves the winning speed at TV2004 was 194.88mph ;)

http://www.cyber-site.com/terminalvelocity/results.htm

And this year we have several new and different cars...

Guy if we don't break 200mph at TV 2005.

I'll let people take snips at my hair for 10GBP donation to the charity..on the runway at close of play Hows that sound?

Sorry, my mistake, that puts Adam's speed the same as at Brunters which makes more sense.

Yes there are several cars going that should have a decent go at 200mph, let's hope it happens - I'll be queuing with £10 otherwise......:7:

Speedo readings are inherently inaccurate at these speeds. :crying:

I did 189mph at totb which was a 1.2mile runway iirc?

all the best

Re: VMAX SPEEDS

And the m5 was faster than the gallardo so i think that derestricted it would do 182-183mph.

You will get an accurate reading if you have an onboard GPS unit like Origin or Road Angel.

Re: VMAX SPEEDS

The gear they use at Woodbridge, is certified for official speed testing purposes.. so is totally accurate.. !! Speedo's generally read too much speed by 5% .. mine certainly does - as the speed computer measured 168 while i was running 177-178 on the speedo(on a test track obviously!):nono:
