Millionaire tuner survives 199mph Pagani Zonda smash

News that a Pagani owner had managed to stick one of its ultra-rare Zonda F Clubsports into a motorway crash barrier at 199mph would be headline material on its own, but this story gets its own special twist.

According to local reports, the 27-year-old man behind the wheel was none other than Steffen Korbach – the new millionaire investor in German tuning company, Gemballa.

That name ring a bell? Yes, well that's because Gemballa was the brainchild of Uwe Gemballa, the man who was found shot dead in South Africa last year amid accusations of involvement in an international money laundering syndicate.

There was nothing quite so sinister about Korbach's high-speed prang, but connection to the Gemballa name doesn't seem to have brought him much luck either on this occasion.

The rumour making its way around the web is that Korbach lost control of the Zonda F at an epic 198.8mph in the wet, hit a guardrail, lost a wheel, overturned and then collided with a Mercedes it's alleged he was racing against down the A10 Autostrada in Italy.

Incredibly, both Korbach and his 21-year-old passenger walked away from the accident. The car was not so lucky. Check out the YouTube clip below for some scary stills of the damage.

It's lucky they managed to walk away unscathed. A testament to Pagani's engineering.

pagani engineering is wonderful no doubt, but i think blind luck is involved at 200 mph... No matter the car, no matter the engineer
