Hey guys,

I am looking into a 2002 that has had both "left and right Vanos" as well as Catalytic convertors replaced at 21,000 miles (4 years ago).

My question is, is the Vanos issue car specific as in if the car has had Vanos issue once, can the issue return even if everything was replaced?

I apologize if this specific question has been discussed earlier.

Most likely there was never anything wrong with the Vanos itself, most likely only solenoids...Cats and Vanos replaced rathyer looks like the dealer who did it,had no clue how to get rid of the original issue...

Vanos is reliable on any MY M5,sometimes soleniods or CPS go,rarely any real hardware issues...

You are right, especially when BMW is picking up the tab the dealer was probably more than happy changing everything.

I guess by "left and right" Vanos, they mean left and right solenoids.
