My car has been diagnosed with a leaking valve cover gasket. Here is the quote for repair - $115.00 parts and $570.00 labor.

Is this a common failure on the M5? I have a 2001 with 44,000 miles.

Thanks.

I think it is fairly common. I just had both my sides replaced for about $580 or so, parts and labor. I assume you are talking about having both sides done as well?

Did you have it done at a dealer or independent shop?

My estimate is from an independent shop. I am verifying if both sides are included.

Thanks!

The estimate sounds high...about same as BMW dealer.

Tell you what, it looks to me like the valve covers would not be terrible difficult to replace yourself. I think I would take a couple of hours and try for $580.

Maybe it is the cheap in me coming out.
