Hi,

New member, so I'm sorry if this is OT or has already been discussed.

If price weren't an issue, would you guys go with the V1 or the K-40? Does anybody use these things? Any practical advice? I'm a fairly new US resident and had no issues in the past with my X5, but I'm picking up my '08 M6 convertible very soon and I don't think I'll be able to always resist the temptation...

TIA

I have wondered the same thing while waiting for my m6

I know the k40 is an ultimate system because not only is it a radar detector its also a laser jammer... and instead of having a big block on your windshield its hidden sensors within your bumpers.. and all you have is a "little block" somewhere within your car

(the two things i dont think the k40 does is show you where your getting radar'd from aka front, sides or rear and also it doesnt show you a number of radars that are currently radaring)
and that helps! myfriend has been caught like that, his radar(average priced radar) beeped at him telling him there was a cop so he slowed down drove passd the cop and then sped up again as his radar was still beeping he thought oh its from the cop back there, and turned out there was another cop just 500yards up ahead...got a ticket

And this is where currently owning a V1 I LOVE... I love knowing where the cop/radar gun is, and how many signals my radar is catching as well..

If i could have the V1 as a radar and then the k40 just as a laser jammer i would go for that option, but im not sure if it can work like that because V1's site says that having two systems might interfere with each other so i dunoo

anyone else that can chime in?>

I know the K-40 has 2 different lights installed in the dash. One light is for the front and the other for the back. There are no arrows, but it is possible to know which the radar signals are coming from, you just have to know which light is for which signal.

Can someone with actual K40 usage provide us feedback on the product? I really like the clean "stealth" installation, but just am struggling with letting go of my V1.

I currently own a V1 and used it in my 550i. Love it! the only problem is that I don't know where to put these in the M6. Any suggestions? I won't put it on the sun visor b/c of the suede.

Right now my V1 is low on the windshield, and unfortunately I use the dang cigarette adaptor for now until I can hardwire it up to the ceiling light

custom V1

I know some don't like the V1 rearview mirror install...but I love it, clean look, no worries of theft. a little more than a K40. I had the K40 in my A8 and I think the V1 is far superior.

I know that wireless detectors are not as effective but they have their benefits. A police car stopped me today for speeding (no radar) and I was quickly able to remove my Escort Solo S2 from the dash before he was able to see it. He kindly let me go asking me 'to tone it down a bit'.

Valentine One is hands down the best detector on the market. I have 4 of them, one for each car. I've used them for years and can't say enough good things about them. As for laser, that's another story. Even the best detector is too late to help. I suggest the Blinder for laser jamming. I have 4 blinders and 3 AL 8's on the front of my M6 and 2 blinders and 1 AL 8 on the back. I had a cop friend of mine use his laser gun on me and he could not get a reading either front or back on 3 passes at 80 mph.

RaDaRkInG,

thanks for the video... i guess that rules out the K40 then.

paultenn,

That sounds like a sweet setup - but do you really need 10 anti-lidar transceivers on one car? Also, when you say "blinder", do you mean the Laser Blinder or the Blinder Laser Jammer?

Actually, you do need that many on one car. The protection area of each unit is about 18 inches. They usually suggest mounting them near the usual target areas such as the license plate or headlights. That still leaves a lot of area exposed. I have several friends who are cops and they can easily get around the jammers by aiming at different locations on the car. It may be overkill, but my car jams to the gun front and back. If you are going to do it, why take a chance on less than full coverage? The jammers I use are the Blinder Laser Jammer and the AL 8. They are both very good and when used together give total protection.

Radar Jamming is a felony in every state. It is outlawed federally. Laser Jamming is not a felony, but is outlawed in Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC.
