Honestly I think for it to fail THAT catastrophically, it was a pretty sturdy engine. I think a BMW with a crank bearing problem like that would let go LONG before it had a chance to do that sort of damage! Then again, maybe thats because there comes a point where it should be designed to fail... just let go little piston rod, its ok... the other pistons wont judge you...
