Hi.

buying an Alpina E39 B10 V8 on the weekend. RAC man said it needed 4 new tyres.

So what are the tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport 2s)? and what size are they for the 18 inch alloys?

Need this info asap as I need to haggle this price off the final.

Cheers

Ok , thanks to neils great website I've found the tyre size. Still anyone got a figure for 4 new tyres and what they are?

Heres my first stab, is it okay to mix pirelli Zero Nero and Zero Rosso Assimetrico for front and back? This is the price and suggestion for mytyres.co.uk

Front Tyres

P ZERO NERO 265/35 ZR18 93Y
Price £173.50
Price for 2 tyres £347.00

Rear
Pirelli

P ZERO ROSSO Asimmetrico 235/40 ZR18 91Y
Price £131.40
Price for 2 Tyres £262.80

Total £609.80

+ about £48 for fitting.

Hi Jay,

I don't know the thread pattern on those tires, but by looking at their names, it's safe to assume that they are different. Different threads are normally not recommended.

As for the brand, Michelin Pilot Sport 2 proved itself to be excellent tires. I have the first generation (PS1) and I can't tell you enough how I'm happy with them.

£760 with tyres from mytires and local fitting.

Yikes! Still I do hardly any miles , they should last 18k miles?

Kwik-fit have an online tyre chooser by car. They even have the Alpina B10.

So with fitting included they cost!

<table summary="Your Order" class="YourOrder" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr class="tr1"><td>Make</td> <td>Model</td> <td>Tyre Size</td> <td align="right">Price</td> <td align="center">Quantity</td> <td align="right">Total</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Dunlop</td> <td>SP Sport 9000 MFS</td> <td>245/40Z19</td> <td align="right">£213.00</td> <td align="center"> <select name="QTY-1" class="TyreSearch"><option value="0">0</option><option value="1">1</option><option value="2" selected="selected">2</option><option value="3">3</option><option value="4">4</option><option value="5">5</option><option value="6">6</option><option value="7">7</option></select> </td> <td align="right">£426.00</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Dunlop</td> <td>SP Sport 9000 MFS Mercedes only</td> <td>275/35Z19</td> <td align="right">£225.00</td> <td align="center"> <select name="QTY-3" class="TyreSearch"><option value="0">0</option><option value="1">1</option><option value="2" selected="selected">2</option><option value="3">3</option><option value="4">4</option><option value="5">5</option><option value="6">6</option><option value="7">7</option></select> </td> <td align="right">£450.00</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3">Valve and Balance</td> <td align="right">£7.99</td> <td align="center">4</td> <td align="right">£31.96</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3">Tyre Disposal Charge</td> <td align="right">£1.00</td> <td align="center">4</td> <td align="right">£4.00</td> </tr> <tr class="tr1"> <td>

So I should basically try and nail this guy down on price between those two figures?

Have you tried Micheldever ? They always seemed to be best for prices when I had my B10.

ALSO - have you agreed the price - this sounds like a good bargaining angle ! spending a grand on a car you've just bought is a bit rich - try to knock them down....

I use Michelins and get them from Micheldever. From memory I think they were around £200 each... maybe £170 for the fronts, can't quite remember.

I think Michelins are great on the B10 V8, if expensive. Good grip both wet and dry.

I offerd hom £500 less, he wouldnt' play ball.

So the I'll speak to the RAC man tommorow and if he says they need replaceing soon it will have to be no ball. :crying2: :sad1:

I want to buy this car, but I am not going to spend another 750 -900 pounds on tyres on a car I've just bought.

I just can't keep racking up the costs / extend the warranty, double my insurance etc.

I've pulled the stops out but perhaps it's a step too far. We'll see tommorow.

Jay, are you going ahead with the purchase? I see you are down for the Alpina meet on Sunday.

My two cents worth on the tyres - try and bargain with the seller, but at the end of the day buying a car like this I think you have to be prepared to spend money on it to keep it in good condition. I have found that all of my cars have needed money spending on them initially to get them 100% right as I can't bear any imperfections - so I just budget that into the purchase price.

All true.

The RAC man says at least two needed replcaing straight away and two fairly soon. Realisticly the price was good, but less good If I had to spend another £900 on top of that. He wouldn't even come down another £250 so that was that.:crying:

I'll keep looking. I can wait anyway, time is on my side, and with another nipper on the way, the more I save now the better!

J

Still very sad, it was a very good looking car.

seems about right depending on mileage must be hard to walk away. The B10 V8 is the best all rounder i've ever had , 2 years on and i never want to sell good luck with your search

By happy co-incidence theres loads of them in autotrader appeared today :1:

If the RAC man hadn't said about the tyres I would have owned it by tommorow.

It is hard to walk away, I'm fairly gutted it was in good nick and I felt it was a good price (I haggled quite hard) , there were a few queutions hanging over it though so I am also less stressed! Plus I've spent 280 quid on the RAC report. Still saved me 850 on tyres so well worth it.

I can always buy another one, and in the meantime have to struggle along with the RX-8
