Anyone install lighting to illuminate the engine bay with the hood open? My M635 has this, and I miss it on the M5. Guess BMW figures we do not need to see under the hood in the dark, we jsut call roadside assistance.

E39 M5's come with a small, removable flashlight wired in the glove compartment. 'Suspect BMW meant this to be a more useful "tool" when an owner needed to see something in the engine bay (or elsewhere) at night. Just a guess......

I doubt with a little knowledge of electrical that you could creat your own under the hood light with a pressure switch to turn off when hood/ bonnet is closed.
