Tubi is coming out with a cat back exhaust system for the M-5 in early 2001. Based on Tubi's reputation it should have good power with that Tubi sound no other company can produce. You can contact Tubi at 616.396.1979.

A Toronto Dealer who owns both a Ferrari and BMW dealership had a tubi exhaust installed on his M5, after hearing and seeing it I installed it on my M5 last week . The price is pretty steep. The total cost is around $3600.00 US.
I actually just checked up on Tubi Style for my upcoming 360M. If they have an M5 exahust, that's what I'm waiting for.

Forgot to mention. For the 360Modena (400bhp also), they claimed a 7% hp increase over OEM. That correlates to 28hp. Obviously they wont get the same kick from the M5, but it does seem promising.

Obviously? Why?

I'm assumignt hat they're not as experienced with BMW. Tubi has been doing Ferrari exhausts for..well..forever I suppose. Might take them a bit to get it right, but who's to say they won't get that or more out of it?

--Dan
For what? In the m5? they don't know yet, i'm assuming. as i said before, for the 360 Modena they saw 7% over OEM which correlates to 28 (i know, im simplifying it a lot, but oh well).

I figured that a the smaller, high-revving engine found in the 360 has less to gain from the exhaust than the M5. Conventionally speaking, Ferrari had to do some serious tuning to crank out over 100HP/liter...whereas the M5's luxury angle might prevent a descently unrestricted exhaust. Who knows...

I was considering the SuperSprint until I heard how impressive the TriFlo sounds. At only $1000. the TriFlo can be tossed for another brand if I don't like the looks/build quality/sound once it is installed.
i was considering supersprint (they are only 5 horsepower increase).......... DINANs exhaust is only 4hp.......therefore, i am just gonna keep the stock until i see a significant increase in hp.........any suggestions?
Dave,
Where did you get those numbers from?
What makes you think you will ever see any significant increase in power from an exhaust? If you are waiting for delivery of an exhaust which will "uncork" all that extra power that BMW engineers couldn't deliver, keep dreaming.

Dan
It is not uncommon to "uncork" +/- 20HP at the wheels from a V8. It all depends on how restrictive the stock system is. I don't have my M5 yet, so I don't know what kind of gains to expect.

It should be noted that future mods' (intake, downpipe) gains can be enhanced by a better exhaust system, and this I can vouch for personally.

With that said, I wouldn't expect a noticable improvement with an aftermarket exhaust on the M5. If you do it, do it for the sound and/or looks. Most people get fooled into thinking their car is actually faster when they add and exhaust...it's just in your head buddy! The better (read louder) sound coupled with a possibly better throttle response can mislead....
JUST INSTALLED A TRIFLO EXHAUST , GOT THE DYNO TEST INFO FROM TRIFLO, THEY OWN A NEW M5 VS STOCK THE INCREASE IN HORSEPOWER AT 5100 RPMS WAS 12 WITH AN AVERAGE OF 5.7 OVERALL, IN TORQUE YOU GET A 27 FT.LBS WITH AN AVERAGE OF 8.5 AN YOU GET A GREAT NEW SOUND FOR $1100 YOU CAN HEAR THE NEW SOUND AT WWW.BBTRIFLO.COM
Ahhh, I am glad we can generalize about a 20 hp gain on a V8. And a 20hp gain over how much of the power curve? Ever wonder why the performance exhaust companies started advertising how much more "FLOW" they achieve than stock? Because they can't find any real power. Think of how much power you gain across the power curve, and you will know that you are feeling nothing... except that it must be faster, even if it is because your wallet weighs less. I am not saying you shouldn't swap the exhuast, good sound is reason enough alone... but don't think you are gaining much. And I don't believe the intake will give you much either, but we will ALL have to wait and see. I too, have done the bolt-ons on V8 and V10 engines, but didn't find much in most cases, and in others not until headers were involved... and even then, the end result was a few tenths in the quarter.

Dan
Craig,
thanks for the info. One other favor please, make sure that the caps lock light on yoru keyboard is not lit.

Thanks again,
--Dan
It seems that noone has figured out which aftermarket exhaust will yield the most hp gains on the dyno......... also, whether those hp gains actually will be felt in the real world (although if the hp gain is real......it should be able to be felt)
You won't notice 5 hp. Maybe 10, maybe. 20+, sure.

--Dan
A few tenths? That's actually quite a bit considering those parts are relatively inexpensive, and don't really alienate your car like other mods might. The difference between a 540i and M5 in the quarter is only .7 seconds.

Although the M5 has nearly a 120HP advantage, the gap between the cars' torque is only half that. The TriFlo dyno test (assuming it is somewhat accurate) shows a nice torque gain in the low end...very useful for getting a 2ton car in motion.

Was it one specifically designed for the M-5 or was it modified to fit ? Does it give the engine that high pitch Italian sound ? I had one installed on my 86 Ferrari TR and it sounded GREAT !!!! I had heard a Tubi for the M-5 would not be available until early 2001.
