I am at a crossroads.... disregarding any ECU / O2 sensor issues... I have been reading on this topic for awhile so I just want to put the question out there....

Do Headers give any extra performance? Lots of dyno sheets but lots of videos where headers don't seem to matter.

Has anyone got headers and actually seen better trap speeds on the 1/4 mile or pull higher speeds on the straights at the track??

I don't care about dynos.

From what I've heard, they are not worth the money, but thats just hear say, cause my dad doesn't have headers on his car.

Well, I had my headers / software / 3.91 gearing installed at the same time so it is tough to tell where the improvements came from but before these mods, my best 1/4 mile time was 12.5 @ 116. After mods, most of my runs are in the high 11.9's with trap speeds between 119.5 - 121 mph.

I took my 3.91 gearing off this winter so I will see on April 6th how this will effect my time.

Sooooo, in conclusion I think they do help (certainly in the exhaust note department) but how much?.....dunno.

TBone,
Sorry I can't give the #'s you'd like but the difference was so obvious after them that I hate to apply the loaded term butt dyno. (Hey, that was almost Waywardesque) I have way more traction issues than before them and the last 1k rpm is definitely a lot stronger

Yes! This is the type of data point that I am looking for. Please let me know when you run with the stock diff...

Also can you do me a favor and just launch the car normally? I just want to see the trap speed in isolation with a 2.0 second 60 foot time.

Thanks.

Anyone else??

You were kind enough to get me night shots of your taillights.... and I would clearly do whatever I could for this board....I am sure 6speed will remember the request :haha:

Anything for you, T. Anybody up for a track rental day sometime this Spring or Fall? Maybe make a weekend out of it and rent a road course track as well? If anybody in the Midwest wants to do something like this, let me know as there are a lot of options. Sounds like trouble....

In the last 15 seconds, you can see my run vs an'08 F430. You can see that I was half a car behind him at 150 mph, but I overtook him at around 170! We started from a roll at 40 mph. My mods are evosport headers and pulley, SS xpipes and Tubi catbacks. I have not installed a CAI or ECU. So the only real mods on my car are the pulley and headers. The increase in power which allowed me to run with the '08 F430 (which by the way was quicker than the '06 and '07 models due to a revised ECU) cannot be coming from the pulley only!

If you get headers alone, my indication is that it's not worth it.

Headers + software, that's a different story. PM me if you want a software setup to match your headers.

Just remember one thing: Scavenging exhaust is good, but only if there is something to scavenge..
.
. For you non gear heads this means, if your engine isn't taking in enough air/fuel to begin with headers won't help....summry....you need intake work to need exhaust work.
.
...and nobody has done it YET for the M5.
those little air scoops in front of the radiator are NOT enough to make a BIG improvement in the intake side...Larger intake runners and injectors along with a fresh air impute is very much needed first..

It is my feeling that Nos is helpful and headers will help then...but the real culprit is the M5's inability to breath.

How did you hit 170 without an ECU flash? Isn't the limiter closer to 150-160? Sounds like it was a nice race though!

LiM5 and I did 175 on beach rd. in NY in stock form....6th to 7th gear....no problem...shifting from thoes 2 gears doesn't seem to effect the limiter..

I recently added evosport headers to my car and I will be completly honest about it! the car is much faster! you can actually feel this, specially when you are at high revs. Dynoed the car and it shown what I was feeling, 25rwhp gain (no ecu reflash done yet). For me, definitely worth the money, love it!

I think it's worth it. There's a lot of video showing that the headers
do provide performance gains (see all the NY guys). If you can get
a deal on headers, even better. I don't think headers are worth 8k,
more like 4k. If you can find a set at that price you should definitely
do it.

Bone. Headers most definitely add performance. Was at Atco last week and unless I fouled a launch and/or spun the tires, I was consistently trapping 120-121mph. None of the non-header guys were doing this (more like 118-119). Yes, their 60' and ET's were better, but that comes with more skill and better traction off the line. If I can ever get those two mastered, I'll most definitely get into the 11's.

why not try racing cats from evosport first before headers. didn't turner motorsports get more hp and tq from deleting the first set of cats than supersprint headers. I thought someone had said that the M5/M6 headers are pretty good.
