I can buy the recommended(by you) "i910-II by icarsoft" but when i buy it as i am not a mechanic and not even close, so how do i use it to get the error code?

I am am certainly going to buy that thing if i can actually use it.

Thanks man, appreciate it.
all you have to do is plug the device to the obdII port. the port is located on the drivers side just above hood release there is a small door labeled obdII .......flip open and plug adapter in.

no one can help you on the forum without the codes ....... plus no one will help you with some of these basics ..... you will have to take the time to search and read info on forum .........

the search button is your best friend ....... there are step by step postings already written that show you a do it yourself (diy) way to fix the problem ..... reading not your thing? search youtube there are plenty of videos showing throttle body actuator installation.

also, buy icarly sounds like you will have better luck with it much easier to use than i940-II ... you can find it on amazon ..... adapter is 40.00 and the software is about 50.00 make sure you buy a genuine adapter so you can get support and buy the one for your phone ie apple or android software can be downloaded ........

you will have an easier time reading seeing and clearing codes with carly for bmw

Just read your reply. I understand very well not being a mechanic and its frustrations. The guy I recommended has been consistently correct and more than reasonable with me on prices. His shop is well regarded and always busy. He has saved me countless $$$ and always gone above and beyond. Go get your car scanned. I doubt he would charge you for hooking it up and reading the codes. He will give you a fair assessment and you can go from there. I totally understand your concerns having faced this 2 years ago.

Shop is M-Chanics in Valley Stream, NY. Owner/mechanic (M5 Deamon) is George. Call him at 516-590-0660. I've worked with him for years and highly recommend him.

How many miles on your car? It was an '08 yes? Ever had the rod bearings done?

if you have an iphone ....... yes this is the adapter ..... you will also need to download software ..... go to download store search for carly for bmw ..... buy software and then you are done.

this will allow you to pull all fault codes and email them to yourself which you can then post for help on forum plus you can clear faults, code your car for extra functions, reset service intervals and many more functions well worth the investment.

based on mileage and what you describe it sounds like actuator .... you should really replace both with new ones ...... these fail and mine lasted until about 91k which is pretty good ....... if you need them now ecs tuning can get them for 725 if you can wait buy from fast attack they are 625 plus you will be supporting a forum member that contributes a lot to the community.

order reader pull codes and let forum know ...... you will get much more help if you can give those

ask JColley about that through his site - I'm pretty sure they (ECS and FastAttack) are for one year - Since JColley is all over this site offering assistance I would discuss this with him ......

ECS sell GEN BMW Stamped part for 980 or so ..... you really need to change both especially with the mileage - save the one that good for a just in case moment thats what I did.

Plus while they were in there I had all filters cleaned and/or changed, new plugs, coil packs checked and new clips installed if any were deteriorated, both throttle body actuators, and both idle control actuators since my mechanic was going to be in there - they are prone to fail as well - since mine is a daily its cheaper to be very proactive and preventative for these known issues.

Hope this helps .... BTW - you can buy both VDO actuators and typical labor for install for less than the cost of 2 GEN BMW branded .... if you use GEN plan on a 2,600.00 job including labor or use VDO ECS - around 2,000 or wait for Fast Attack to get more and spend 1,800.00 - choice is yours

Oh and BTW those prices reflect 550.00 in labor which is what i was quoted for install

What do you mean here? Is there a way to know which is bad and which is not? maybe i can just change one at a time.

You mentioned you change all those as well, were those expensive parts as well?

no, filters for cabin around 30 to 35 ...... ecs sells the ignition coil clip for about 4.00 each plugs are 11 each ........

idle control actuator ..... yes expensive 578 each and there are two

total bill for all filters, parts, oil, oil additives and labor around 3500

peace of mind ...... priceless .... again idle control had not failed but changed both anyway just in case i figured since we were in there might as well. its just one less thing to worry about.

The DSC fault is likely because of the throttle actuator faults. Both of your actuators are failing the pre-start test. That's 2B21 and 2B22 (closing spring test - i.e. it's sluggish when the throttles are closing instead of snapping shut. This is likely the circuit board. It can also mean Combustion misfires, several cylinders).

2B57 is your Air Mass sensor (Is it maybe unplugged?) and 2B2D is related to bank 2 initialization. It's tough to say what this means. Nothing good, though.

If you need 2 new TA circuit boards = 2 new TAs since they're not sold separately. Take out the 2 TAs. Push on the little ball lever and see if it returns to start quickly or drifts back. If the latter, your circuit board is toast. Even if the former - your circuit board could still be toast as I found out when my TA on bank 2 failed only 1 of the tests of about 15 or so.

Looks like you might need a new coil for cylinder 8 (maybe there is an oil leak :dunno: )

So far i haven't noticed any oil leak
Thanks a lot for your analysis, appreciate it
