That wasn't EAG. They never participated in the cars that board member BigGar offered here back in 2008, found a buyer for the 90 mile Imola example (board member Danish paying $50k for it), but then sent the other two, both silver, one a 2002 with ~100 miles and one a 2000 with about 1900 miles, to an RM Auction in 2010. Griot scooped up the 2002 example, drove it about 350 miles and then sent it to auction last year where it pulled in $176,000.

To each their own right...

Unfortunately, it’s a waste of $, the new owner will never enjoy the car or one day it becomes the most expensive parts car.

Well, why is this surprising? Cars (not E39 M5s) sell for $150K and more all the time, every minute. If you have the money and you really want as close to new E39 M5 as possible, $150K is not that much money, especially since its Imola! :)

You guys all should be happy that there are M5s pulling in that much money! I would rather buy one for $15k with loads of character and drive there heck out of it while spending the rest of my $100K+ on other stuff... And being able to mod and maintain it with some leftover money would in the end, make it a much better car objectively speaking. One can also invest the rest of the money and earn double the amount in a few years. To each his/her own.

I think the price is crazy to. But that's the collectors market in general. It sucks but there'a nothing to do about it. If someone wants to pay $150k or more for one then so be it.

And not to mention, you'd probably being paying close to that or at least $100k to properly restore a beat up E39 M5 like new so...eh lol.

All the comments about how this car is too expensive and not worth it made by people who think that $150K is a lot of money. But the reality is - there are a LOT of people in this world who will spend $150K on a car without even thinking twice. Its just not that much for them. That's all.

EAG scooped that car up from some dealer in MI for 75 grand and sold it for 150.

if you watch any of the EAG videos on youtube you will understand what kind of people buy those kind of cars from them. Its usually filthy rich people with multiple collector grade cars in their stable and owning mint examples is what gives them the satisfaction, not driving them. His clients routinely trade in previously purchased EAG cars for other rare BMWs. That is why he has so many "repeat visitors" and makes money on the same car over and over and over again. Those cars go from collector to collector in enclosed trailers without seeing any significant miles and EAG makes a profit every time it switches hands. Those sub 20k mile cars probably have had more previous owners documented in carfax than the average 100k mile E39.

You are correct in that if you start daily driving that car, the value will drop like a rock but that is not the kinda future that car will have. Unlike the 90k LSB M3 that sold on BaT and the owner plans to triple the mileage in 3 years which in my opinion is an idiotic decision. If you're going to spend 90 grand on a LSB E46 you store it in the garage and preserve its value. If you want to DD a LSB with zero door dings then get a low mileage basic color E46 and spend 10 grand on a quality LSB paint job and you'll save 50 grand and still have a LSB with perfect body panels.... To each his own though

Just to clear one thing up for those that weren't aware... That car didn't actually sell for $90k. The buyer never paid. It was discussed in the comments. Completely agree with your other points though.
