In This Thread: We list our oil consumption per oil change. Try to standardize it to quarts per 5000 miles (simple proportions) if you don't mind - or if you're really SOL, you can do it by quarts per tank of fuel.

If I may add something.
Please add also production date year/month.

My previous M5 1998/11
Very high consumption. For 1000 kilometers/ 620 miles - 1 liter during normal driving, sometimes with harder/ trackday driving up to 1,5 1,7 liters.

Now I have 2002/07, I have it from last Friday, I take a look and write.

My M5 is a 2000 with a 2002 engine. Is there a reliable way to tell the engine build date? I suspect this can be done by giving BMW the engine s/n but am not sure.

2003 with 103,000 miles. 3/03 build date

0.5-1.0 qt/1000 miles, depending on how much time I spend above 4,000 rpm. She takes 2qt/1000 miles now but the extra is from an oil leak.

I use the BMW 5w-30.

1 litre every 400miles, I think 1 litre is equal to 0.87987663 of your Imperial quarts (unless there are different types of quarts?)

my e39 m5 11/99 with 146.000 km For 1000 kilometers / 620 miles - 1 liter during normal driving.....
+1

mine - 7/99 108,000 km - - 1000 kilometers / 620 miles - 1 liter during my normally spirited driving

or to the specifics of the question - - 'Try to standardize it to quarts per 5000 miles' (5000 mi. = 8046.72 km);

- it works out to approximately 8 quarts for 5000 miles cherrsagai

SO WHAT'S THE GOOD NEWS? - - well, TWS ON SALE of course - - at only 10 euro a liter! :wow:

1/2001 - <0.5L per 5700-6200 miles.

Occasionaly approaching ~1L under certain conditions; 1L on one 9300 mile interval.

We'll have to see about my new M5 . . .

-I use TWS 10w-60
-about 2,500 miles/ liter
-I've only put 5,000 miles on the car, using 2 liters in that time. Some hard driving, parking lot snow fun, no track time.

I use to consume a liter every 400-500 miles but I drove pretty hard with lots of engine braking, strted changing oil more regularly with 0w40 and less engine braking. I am now at 1 liter every approx 5000km. I can only assume because I usually change it at 3000km and I'm not even down .5 liter.
