Hi Everybody,

I decided to finally start logging my M5 build since I never did this for any other car I had. Coming from e46 m3's and an e70 x5m my current e60 m5 felt a bit more special than the rest and I'm planning on keeping it longer than the rest. Was hoping to share my mods and answer any questions some people might have who want to go a certain route with their m5's. It's been almost a year now and the car definitely looks much more improved than when I bought it.

The start:
2007 BMW M5 Silver Grey Metallic
SMG 80,000/miles
Dinan S3 package (included Stage 3 tune, cold air intakes, muffler, bored ITBs, dinan pulley)

First thing was first an Oil change was due even though the dealer had said they did it. Notice the screw was leaking a bit (fixed now) but filter and oil was good.

Was able to send my oil over to blackstone labs and seemed to have checked out ok. Rod bearings still scare me but I was told previous owner used 10w-60 and did an oil change every 7k-10k miles. Below is the report and i change it every 5-7k now as well with 10w-60

Now the downside of buying this M5. Unfortunately the drains were clogged around the headliner rear and water came into the floor of the front and rear. I got a video of but flost the old pictures off my pc but I cant upload the video so here is a youtube link: M5 Drain issues
I had to replace the carpets and now I'm alot happier with it.

1st change was "white" Angel eye bulbs, bought these for $20 on ebay they were nice while I had pre-lci on

Next up DEPO Smoked LCI Style Tail Lights for Pre-LCI lights and CF dipped side Grilles. The grilles were a bit complex and had to use a card to prevent scratches but the tails were easy plug and play.

Now for some interior work. Start small and got some IND red Start/Stop and M button. Took the advice from someone on here to drill out the M button and replace and it was so easy doing so. Also got a phone mount from ProClip USA. I love these phone mounts since they are made specifically for your car and phone.

Now is were the fun started. I was tired of the black interior and i love brown interior, Been doing interior swaps on my cars for awhile now and after doing my M3 from grey to Cinnamon I wanted to do my M5 from black to a similar brown. Then I found Portland brown interior from a parted 06 M5 for $600 needless to say I was happy. Only thing missing was the center console, which i bought off ebay and it needed to be redone since the previous owner tried to dye or wax it. pics of it redone later.

Also here is some carbon fiber interior trim wrap I did which was a placeholder until i got my trim from Dinmann

Started swapping the interior during winter time so far so good. Back seats were a pain to get out since the top portion is clipped on from the trunk area. Still had the center console in since the other was being done. White stuff on the carpet was arm and hammer to remove any smells from the carpet.

Finally got the removal of the center console and put in the freshly sprayed one in since no-one could reupholster it around me. Thanks to On The Spot Leather and Vinyl for the fix

Now for my interior trim. I wanted something custom but in CF. I found Dinmann who helped me with my choice and after a few intagram DM's i was sold on his products. Packed up my secondary trim I bought for this since I wanted to resell my silver brushed aluminum and off they went. Luckily most of it was done before covid happened but my knob and ebrake took longer due to covid. Came out to getting Honey Comb Carbon Fiber trim. I love the way it looks and and very pleased with it.

Now the install. Had to take the door panels back out to install them, and let me tell you the door cards were a pain to remove since I didn't realize I had to pull with an up motion to unclip them from the window portion. Unscrewing the trim from the back was easy. People would normally pull and rip the trim off and reglue on the new trim but I wanted to do it the right way so i spent hours to do this.

Had to take apart the whole middle section and install the full set (excuse the blurry pic)

I was super happy with the trim and couldn't wait for the shift knob and ebrake to arrive. I know to some this might be to much carbon fiber but I like it. It flows from the center shift knob to the CCC system. By this time i also sent out my cluster to get some work done it from Rom3Customz and order my steeringwheel from AZA auto so those will come up soon.

I start working on the exterior again to do an LCI swap. I wanted to do it all myself but realized coding was a bit more than i could handle. I had to cut off my old harner plugs and re pin the new one for the headlights. I got lucky and got a really clean set of LCI headlights with all the light accessories on it for 800 from a friend at CCM Autos in NY (check them out if you are in the NY area really good body shop)

By this time as well I took off my Dinan mufflers and sold them to someone local in NY. After that i was able to get some custom tips off ebay and had my buddy weld them on as a placeholder until he can do a custom titanium muffler to dress up the bottom. Also got pics of the LCI tail lights which look alot better to me honestly. Anyone looking to do an LCI upgrade please do it, yes its time consuming but it changes the look of the car for the better.

At this point i wanted to buy wheels. I was going to buy BBS LM's but i wanted something sportier so BBS CH-R in 20 to fill the gap did it for me. Thanks to Vivid Racing for helping with that order.

Here is is setup on the car. I started to want to change the color of the wheels but that might have to wait.
20200215_000501813_iOS.jpg

Very soon after I got H&R sport springs on the car from Modbargains and decided to buy the Dinan Rear swaybar to add to. The drop looks good but will be switching to coilovers soon since i did not change the shocks out and i want to adjust the height a bit. Cleaned up a bit as well

Just a quick comparison from the start to now exterior wise so far.

Before:

After: Also left the yellow white bulbs in the angel eyes for the LCI i like the look better

Dirty wheels

At this point the exterior was near were I wanted it to be so back to the inside. Got my cluster work done with some custom gauges from Rom3Customz. Definitely worth the upgrade. You can contact him on instagram if you would like any color or style you want. Also got my wheel from AZA as well and it looked amazing.

Back to the parts!

I order some Turner Monoball thrust arms from ECS and after the install it felt much better the vibration on braking went away and most of the regular vibration went away BUT because its a monoball i feel the road a bit more which im ok with honestly. Sterring feel is 10x better as well.

I recently order a few things for my birthday this past week BimmerTechs Vivid Screen with back up camera and Apple TV. I was excited when it arrived but they forgot to include the MMI system so I'm haulted on that install. Dinmanns shift know knob and ebrake came in :) and some OEM E60 M5 floor mats along with some Pedal Haus black plates and petals (still waiting for these to come in) onto the pics. Also got some bumper plugs for the front holes since i wont be painting the front and rear bumper for a bit.

Currently the car is slight apart waiting to finish the bimmertech MMI install and for the Pedal Haus items to arrive. Will update with more detailed pics of the installs when it starts moving again. thanks for viewing so far

Nice! not alot of e60 m5's around here though, mostly e39's in southern part of CT. Hopefully in the future there would be more meets and stuff for enthusiast around here.

I can always set up M5 get together or something. I used to have 3 E39 M5s to date. I am from central CT and if you need any help with M5, let me know.
