Hi guy I’m hoping someone on here can assist me in choosing the right setup for my 2000 E39 M5. I’d like to supercharge it and don’t know which SC is best to go with. The engine and transmission are stock and I also wanted to possibly get a set of headers. What are my options. Thanks in advance

If you can wait a short while longer, ESS is coming out with a new version of their kit for the e39 M5. It's amazing that we're still seeing things developed for our platform. They're utilizing a new blower design and I think incorporating other design tweaks to the kit.

I personally have a big issue with the Stage 1 kits that lack an intercooler (and F/I guys that don't run an oil cooler). Not really my thing, meth or no, but it is the best value out there for adding power.

I'm not well versed on what Stage 2 kits are still in production, but IIRC they're all $10-$11k USD+, and that's a big investment. For some M5s on the forum, almost the whole value of the car. Worth 2x the base ESS kit? I'm not sure, but spending $5,500 on a full exhaust and tune for +30-40whp N/A doesn't seem like great ROI either.

Yeah, I think some of the intercooling factors play a bigger role depending on the climate you live in and your expectations for your car, i.e., are you doing track time or the occasional autox, etc...

I can’t speak from experience with the superchargers or in relation to e39 heat soak, but I will say that I am one of the lucky few that is currently having the new ESS kit R&D’d on their car. I’ll share my review with the kit once I get the car back and put some miles on her, but so far I’m exceptionally pleased with the quality of the craftsmanship that I’ve seen in the photos. (ESS made a recent post on insta). I can’t wait to see the final product.

Yes, I would love to see what's changing on the ESS kit. Looking forward to your review.

Wow, when did this news come out? I'm in the process of ordering one of their last VT560 kits, maybe I should hold off.

Just cancelled my order for the VT560 kit, waiting on the new one for now. Those velocity stacks are sweet! Does speedhaven have a shop? I'm northern CA based and looking for a shop that's experienced with supercharged E39s for when the time comes to install/upgrade the kit.

I believe he's in SoCal, but there are a bunch of e39 M5 guru's in and around San Francisco area. Some of whom still post here and might see your message. They can either help you DIY or recommend shops.
