This has now happened to me on multiple occasions. Not sure exactly when this happens, but I've watched the oil temperature gauge on the dash rise up to 300 and stay there for an unknown amount of time. I'll look back down and it will be back to just under 210. I get no messages, nothing. The OELTEMP in the secret menu, which I have been told is oil temp, is constantly at 81 degress +- 2 to 3 degrees. Any ideas?

Thanks!

You may have a failing instrument cluster. I'm currently working on a car that presents a similar symptom and several more detailed here - http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e3...eaking-goo-multiple-interesting-symptoms.html

Today, I watched as the oil temp climbed from 190 to 250 in about a minute while idling. Since the OBC display is not working either, don't know what the secret menu says. My guess it that it's not the same as the gauge.

Do you have any other symptoms? Speedo or fuel gauge inaccuracies?

No other symptoms, but I wouldn't know if there were anyway.... Fuel, speedo, tach, coolant, all appear to be working. This is a recent issue. I purchased the beast a little over a month ago and didn't experience this problem. No dead pixels either.

Managed to snap a picture when it happened a couple days ago.

Take a quick look at fuse #15 in the glovebox. If it is popped, that is your problem. If not, it is probably an intermittent connection.

I know the coolant temperature can vary between the secret menu and the temperature gauge - is the oil temperature the same? It sounds like a dodgy sensor to me, but it could be the wiring to the gauge itself. I'd recommend getting it out and having a look, see if any connections have perished etc. A new cluster is not a cheap fix!

I had the same issue as OP, spiked @ 300 check one my posts, replaced the oil level sensor and it solved the issue, I'm actually having the same issue again with check engine oil light as it has been happening for a while now. I did a oil change yesterday and it is on the dot, but still getting the light after 10 -30 mins of driving so I'm guessing my sensor failed again, so will have to replace on my next oil change for sure.

How soon did the new sensor fail?

I'll replace mine in the next couple thousand miles as I'm due for an oil change and then report back.

Thanks everyone
