I've got a '95 with the sexy 3-spoke M wheel with airbag. Is there another M wheel with stereo controls that will fit, from an M3 or M5 maybe? Anyone know what size fits the splines?

Rats, I knew it wouldn't be easy. Also there is a wheel position sensor for the Nurenburg suspension somewhere in the column, don't know if it's part of the back of the wheel or lower down

Wonder if an earlier 7 series wheel would fit....

The E36 M3 wheels are a direct swap. The E46 and E39 wheels (with radio controls) will not work without significant modifications. The E34 doesn't support remote stereo controls so you'd have to add that as well.
The e46 and e39 also use different airbag technology than the old SRS systems on the e36 and e34, so even if you managed to get the wheel to physically fit on the column your airbag probably wouldn't work (or work unintentionally).

As mentioned the e36 wheel is a direct replacement because it uses the same steering column as the e34 BUT if you have a right hand drive car you will need to order an e36 indicator stalk carrier from BMW + you will need to use an e36 slip ring which you'll have to modify. It's not a hard job if you're reasonably confident with car electrics but anything to do with airbags is a wee bit scary. If you manage to find a 3 spoke M-Tech wheel off a '98 e36 Evo or Sport pack car and want to carry out the modification yourself then you can follow the instructions on this link:

Please be aware you do this at your own risk and failure to take necessary precautions may result in injury or premature death :crying2:
