Hi Guys's,

I've not been on here for a while (the beast has been fairing up well).

But a few issues have shown up, one of which is that my steering is getting heavy - especially at very low speeds (Carparks etc).

Also I've lost faith in the steering - it's not as precise as in years gone by.

My mechanic is a master tech @ BMW who also does foreigners out of hours!

He has seen the car today and has unfortunately diagnosed a steering box fault!

Question is, new, refurbed or used?

I have sent a request to bmminiparts for a price on new, there are a few on ebay for £100, But I only want to do this job once!

Does anyone recondition them or someone mentioned that some can they be "shimmied" can ours?

Any recommendations?

Steve

The only way I'd consider a used one is if the mileage on it could be confirmed and/or it was from a trusted source. The used box I would want to have 50k miles or less on it to be worth it... Especially since you are paying someone else to do it.

£1750 for a new one from BMW - but they want they old unit back as an exchange.

So I take it if they want the unit back then someone somewhere reconditions them??
