Stealth Vs. Bad Manners == Satisfaction

Driving home from work today a Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe blazed up behind me as I was passing a line of cars. I immediately accelerated in fifth gear thinking this would surely allow me time to get out of his way, but as I accelated he rode my *** even tighter.

So, I finally get room to move over and he pulls up beside me and then slows down. Apparently he wants some action. I was impressed a little since I did not expect him to tail me that well in fifth gear near 100mph (what I accelerated to while trying to get out of his way). That was enough for me, I did not want to play long, so I gave him a taste of fourth gear and he was well in my review mirror by the time I got back into fifth after reaching 5k in fourth.

The ride home was quiet after that.

Hehe he kept up with you on fifth but you smoked him in fourth? How much faster is the acceleration in 4th vs 5th?

When will cheeseballs with second-rate hot rods learn not to mess with an M5? Do they have a deeply masochistic desire to be humiliated? Or is it that they have taken so much satisfaction by beating a tricked out Chrysler Minivan (with chrome wheels, a boy-racer spoiler and pin striping) that they believe they are ready for some real heat? I can understand a car with somewhat similar abilities to the M5 making that approach, but a Thunderbird? The only appropriate thing to do was to smoke him and leave him stewing in his own juices. Nicely done. The world is in order.

T-Birds are what I call "upstart cars."

These are cars that develop a universal reputation as being "quick," particularly as modifed, and their respective owners feel obliged to fulfill the role.

I get a lot of this from SVT Contours. "People know my car to be quick, therefore I must buzz in your ear."

What's even MORE annoying is the "NEW Upstart Car."

This is the guy who has a BRAND NEW (place ANY car's make and model in this space), and since it is just the latest thing, it must be very quick.

I got high-beamed this morning by a new Ford Focus at 140 km/h. Uh-oh! That's a brand new car (regardless of its actual performance)! Better move over!

I was so  about the situation that I actually DID slide right for the clown.

Go ahead, champ...throw brochures out the sunroof while you're at it.

Alps...

Those T-birds are pretty powerful if the owner knows what to do with it. One of my SVT Cobra club members own one of those and it's pretty impressive being "all motor" but I think that car maxed out at around 145-150 MPH.

Still..... our beast should be able to pull away.
