I was on Hwy 6 last night when I saw a new arrest-me-yellow 996 twin turbo pulled over by the police. Apparently this guy thinks having one of the fastest car on earth in yellow is NOT eye-catching enough, he has a custom license plate that says "AT RISK". What is he thinking? This is like putting a bumper sticker on the car that says "Pull me over, please!"

Kenneth,

the owner of the Momentum dealership has a yellow 996TT?... I wonder if it was him?.. not sure about the license plate though?

you are right about the plate though.. this is like having a bright yellow sheet of paper taped to your back in grade school with dark black magic marker letters reading "Kick Me Please?!"

I have always put the random DMV issued plates on my cars. An obnoxious vanity plate seems to almost guarantee the ticket.

The trick is to have a vanity plate that at first look, looks like a Random DMV number, but a better look reveals a meaning.

1C00LVC looks like a standard california plate at first look..

Kenneth, I just purchased a 1997 Porsche 993 Turbo last weekend in Arctic Silver. Although my wife and I love the car in other exterior colors such as yellow or black, we agreed with your assessment that the car is enough of a police magnet with a conservative color. I did get it with a full "chestnut" (burgundy red) / carbon fiber interior though! (I've never really understood the attraction to personalized license plates in general) Warm regards, AD

Oh, hell - I couldn't resist. The picture shows you what I did today.

Black. No vanity plate. No tickets. (none today, anyway. Yeehaw!

Greg,

You can't be serious about this, how can you have fun driving such a car...

Looks like a flat Beatle (imaging: take a big rock and let it fall down to a Beatle, what is the result? A PORSCHE

Sorry but there is ONLY one REAL CAR from GERMANY and it's called BMW (M5)

Greg!
the car is stunning and the picture itself is really nice...should i congratulate you on the purchase again?
i am positive that when i can afford it, i'll exchange $$$s for this kind of a "flattened beetle", this "stupid" purchase would definately make my day for many days to come...

The A6 is my wife's car. Nice car - well built, nice fit and finish, excellent creature comforts, reasonably good power. But as a driver's car it really dissapoints for two huge reasons.

First, there is no steering feel whatsoever. NONE. The steering is way overpowered.

Second, you can't get it with a manual transmission, and the automatic ought to be in an Oldsmobile. It is a total slush machine. It refuses to hold first gear under any circumstance but all out full throttle. Upshifts and downshifts are painfully slow.

To add insult to injury, they give you a "tiptronic" mode - but using it accomplishes NOTHING. You STILL can't hold first gear, and the shifts get neither faster or firmer. Just a gimmick, nothing more.

So yeah, I guess we could call it our winter car - but then, the photo shows what winters are like around here.
(We do go to the mountains occasionally.)

To my wife's credit, however - she did volunteer to park the Audi in the driveway so my M5 and 996TT both have garage slots until I find another storage location.

Cheers

greg,
I realize the logistics of this might be tough, but...
You are more than welcome to store the BWM or TT at my house. I can gaurantee lots of TLC for them and a roof over their heads at night. I would even pick you up at the airport in them since you will be flying to south florida to pick one of them up if you wanted to go driving in one of them. Let me know what you think!

Yeah, yeah! Blame your wife!

Where in CA is San Mateo located?

I will post some pics of my M5 in real winter
when it eventually gets here, for now all it does is rain.

I bought another car to use if the winter gets to bad.

Cheers!
