The Split Second MAF-conversion is a frankenstein-band-aid for the Bosch Motronic ECU. Basically you are converting the L-Motronic air flow meter system to the LH-Motronic mass air flow system. This is done by "patching" in the Split Second system. The split second is not a standalone ECU, rather it is a signal conditioner. It also requires an A/F meter, which just adds another stop in the intake. They are known to be inaccurate and actually detrimental in some cases, as the blocks in air flow can cause pressure issues.

Tuning the Split Second system is a mess. E30 M3 S14 guys wont touch it. You dont need an AFM or a MAF for engine management.

These are revelations I have recently experienced after doing a serious study of engine management systems.
