Take long needle nose pliers, push the two pointy noses on either side, get a good grip, and very slowly, keep trying to turn counter clockwise. You are NOT trying to pull the coil out, but without slipping, turning the coil counter clockwise. Keep turning, with patience, the coil will turn slowly and pop out.
The coils are designed to go in clockwise and come out counterclockwise. I accidentally discovered this. Attempting to pull them out vertically leads to bruised fingers and broken ego, ahem, coil.

Oh man, that actually makes me feel good that I’m not the only one, and that you guys got it the way I was thinking of going. Still sucks but at least it’s not (all) my fault.
Lmao, IT IS ALL YOUR FAULT. YOU are not doing it using the right methods and tools.
(and our faults too, none of us have done it correctly)
