3G for a oil leak fix? What are they replacing?

if it's the vanos unit itself perhaps?

I had a couple of pretty expensive oil leaks that cpo covered too.
first was what was diagnosed as the "upper oil pan gasket" and was quoted at 17 hours of labor

Got the car back, and it still leaked! This time, I took off the belly pan myself and poked around. There is an inspection plug in the bellhousing, i pulled it open and viola, oil dripping out. I returned to the dealership telling them i thought they blew it, and i might have a bad rear main seal (which would explain my slipping clutch as well). They pulled it apart again, found a bad rear main seal which also damaged the clutch and the flywheel! That would have been an expensive oil leak!
