I need to get a new slip ring because i had a little incident with mine when i took off the steering wheel and damaged it, i think the tape inside ripped...
Where can i buy one other than stealership?
Is it hard to install it... or is it as easy as replacing a steering wheel?
How much do they go for?... its a 2000 m5

I had to replace the slip ring on my car also, simple job really - just make sure you have the steering all the way out and down before you disconnect the battery.

Here are a couple of links, the second one has the part number.

You could get one on ebay, have a look at ebay.de

I checked the part number on real oem and there are a bunch of cars, both Euro and US models, that use the same part - I pasted them below.

Now the hard part... does anyone know how to install/replace this??
It was actually very easy to replace - why the heck didn't I take pictures when I did mine :3: Sorry about that!

The most difficult part is removing the airbag really - but you have already managed to remove your steering wheel so I guess you have that figured out already.

Next thing you need to remove is the shroud around the steering column, then you can see the screws that need to be removed, you can compare the new slip ring with the old while it is in situ to give you an idea, it really is very easy.

The only thing you need to remember is to move the steering wheel all the way out (toward you) and all the way down BEFORE you disconnect the battery. You need to do this to give yourself the room needed to remove the shroud.

I have the TIS on a hard drive which is currently in my car, I'll grab it later on and see if I can find detailed instructions.

I'll post later on....

Richie.

Guys, really sorry, I cannot get the TIS (or ETK) to work - something is wrong with the files so I am going to delete them and try to reinstall over the weekend.

Richie.
