Just drove my new to me 01 M5 home and looking to find a shop for any future repairs that are beyond my abilities. I checked out bimmershops.com, but are there any other shops around this area that E39 guys specifically would recommend? I'm about an hour south east of Raleigh so shops in Raleigh or Greenville are best.

I take my 01 to Bimmer Performance Center in North Raleigh.

A bit late, but yes. Bimmer Performance Center. Full stop. I take both my track-toy E36 M3 and my E60 M5 there. They're the only BMW shop I use.

They also have a Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/BimmerPerformanceCenter/

There's also G3 Automotive: http://www.g3autosolutions.com/

I haven't used them, as I haven't felt a need to switch from BPC. But I haven't heard anything negative (really because I haven't heard anything, period).

Ended up finding a guy even MORE local to me here in Goldsboro. Several guys I know from work, all BMW enthusiasts (Z4, 325i, 525i, etc), suggested I go see Jaison from Tony's mufflers here in town.

Even with the multiple recommendations, I was apprehensive about taking my car to a local muffler shop to have it worked on. Drove down there and turns out he and one other guy are basically BMW-only techs. He operates under "TwT Euro Werks" and they have great reviews on Bimmershops.com

Initially took my 325iT there to have a new clutch put in since the existing one had all of the original 135k miles on it. He didn't even bat an eye when I asked to source my own parts since I wanted to use FCP Euro for their lifetime replacement. No issue with that and found that the Giubo was shot as well. Got that part in the next day and had it all replaced and put back together for a very reasonable price. I'll definitely be trusting both my M5 and 325iT with Jaison for the rest of my time here in NC.
