Thermostat is wide open @ about 79 Deg C
Gauge is a guide & not that accurate.
If you want to know true temps, you must instrument & top & bottom hose to get temps.
Bottom hose temp with wide open stat will directly relate to gauge reading.
Easily done.

Faz, am I right in saying that to get the most accurate temp to show on any given gauge, is to tap into bottom radiator hose location. I am setting up a complete gauge cluster including oil temp, water temp and also oil pressure.
