Heading out early morning from Canada to go meet my new M in Florida. I can't wait! Coming from Subaru's where I spent too much making a high power drifting toy. Now it's time to move on and up.

I only have a few pictures for now, but will update on, or after the trip back. Only a 28 hour drive.

Congrats!

You will have plenty of time to bond with your new toy - assuming you respect the speed limit. Otherwise you might have the big boys riding your tail with their xmas lights on :deal:

Make sure you document the journey for us to drool on! :grinyes:

The BMW Performance Center and BMW Museum are in Spartanburg, SC. If you stay on Route 75 north from Ft. Myers north through Florida and Georgia to Atlanta, then pick up Route 85 you'll pass through Spartanburg.

If you've got the time, drive the Tail of the Dragon (Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, motorcycle and sport car two lane tourism serving Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner28, Devils Triangle, and Six Gap North Georgia.). It's a road with 318 curves in 11 miles running from North Carolina (about 100 miles west of Asheville) into Tennessee (about 40 miles south of Knoxville).

I would also drive the Blue Ridge Parkway north through North Carolina and Virginia.

Wow, even more excited now. I'm not sure how fun it will be to drive on Bridgestone Winter tires. Worth trying to slay the dragon I think.

This should be way different than AWD and 30cm of snow!

Thanks for the suggestions and kind words. The M5 community makes the switch even more worth it.

I would also suggest the Dragon. Went there a few years ago on motorcycles & it was a blast! Just be careful of tractor trailers heading in the other direction. They take up both lanes on the switchback curves.

On a flight from NYC to FL, in flight wifi is amazing. About 1.5h till I pick up the M. Thanks for the tips and suggestions.

Hoping Tom Bush has some gallons of Castrol TWS in stock to have some handy on the way home. Anything else I should pickup while I'm there?

It's still in Florida, with me now. Will be coming back to Ottawa.

Wow, the M is a cool car. Decent power, comfortable but composed, and solid. I'm really happy with the switch :)

Shades of me a month and a half ago. Flew down to Ft Lauderdale with my son (M3 owner) to pick up my Indy red/blk int. 08. We took turns driving back to Philly. We made one stop in South Carolina for an overnight along I95. Bonded with the car and my son. Second time we've done that. First time was to pick up another car in Ft. Myers ........ that one remains my toy. It will be a blast driving back .... especially if its your first M5 (like it was for me).

That sounds fun! We're in Richmond VA now. Averaging 18.3mpg driving responsibly. Of course have opened it up on some of the side roads.

Really doesn't feel fast, but that speedo climbs quick!!!!!

My STI was built like a Group N rally car, with solid mounts and bushings, special brakes, suspension.. you name it. Was fun to drive fast on gravel and in snow, but failed at daily driving. It's nice to have somewhat of a mix, even though the M isn't that raw.

Off to Syracuse tomorrow morning, then import Monday! As soon as we have a hint of snow, we'll find a place to swap on the winter tires :)

Just got back from HI. Did the road to Hana on Maui. 52 miles, 56 one lane bridges, and 617 curves (many greater than 90 degrees). Barely two lane the entire distance. Much of the way on a cliff with waterfalls on one side and the ocean on the other. Another great drive

Tips for Driving the Road to Hana

Agree. My wife and I were in Maui for our honeymoon and drove the road to Hana. We actually kept going past Hana until the road turned to gravel - somewhere between Pu'Uiki and Kipahulu. It was a great drive!
