From what I can tell, Nurburg appears to be about 300 miles from Munich. What is the easiest way to get there? Plane, train, auto? My Dad and I will be taking one day of our stay to make the trip to the Ring and I had thought about renting a car but the distance seems a little much.

It would be nice to take a few laps out on the ring in a rental so maybe fly to frankfurt from munich and rent a car from there? For all those who have made this trip...what is your advice?

Thanks in advance,
Dustin

Either,

a) fly to Köln/Bonn and rent a car, from there it's about 80km.

b) rent a car in Munich and drive up, about a 5 hour drive.

I don't think you'd save a substantial amount of time by flying, but that's of course up to you, there's also the hassle of having to catch a flight at a particular time.

Make sure you check if they are actually open for 'Touristenfahrten' (public driving) on the day you want to go. On most weekdays they are open from about 5pm and until 7.30pm, weekends vary though. http://www.nurburgring.de

Enjoy and drive safely, no need to rent a super fast car, a BMW 318i would do nicely.

Hope you have a confirmed reservation the ring Taxi, otherwise you'd be sitting at the visitor's Cafe like every other schmucks there drooling :p

Lasseoe,

Thanks for your help. Renting a car in Munich sounds like the way to go...plus it would be one hell of a road-trip. The trip is scheduled for June 2006 so I do have some time to consider the options and hopefully the schedule allows for some Ring driving. And I'm sure a 318i would be more than enough for my first ring experience. I don't want to end up having to use the insurance.:)

Beewang,

Luckilly I still have over a year before the trip but I am not taking any chances since it will be World Cup time when I'm there. I have been in touch with the ring-taxi folks via email and I should know more in early May. I really hope it works out though...I am tired of watching videos of everyone else enjoying the lap with Sabine!

Thanks everyone,
Dustin
